Anyone done it?

My new barrel and keys arrived today along with the new ignition switch and the 2 clips that are needed.

Stripped the front part of the scooter down to get access to the part of the frame where the bits go.

The bloody thieves have made a right mess of that. Only discovered once I had stripped off the panel.

The hollow tube that takes the ignition which is welded to the frame has been sawn through at various points and peeled open. Means my bits would not fit and the lock block, which connects the barrel to the ignition switch, was stuck inside the tube.

I first thought I could make do by bending the tube back to it's approx shape but the retaining clip in the lock block was bent, meaning the barrel would not connect, and the only way to get it out was to bend the tube further and get it out to find it so feked that it's useless. New lock block on order.

Question that the bleedin' Haynes manual doesn't show is how does it all go back together, that's if I manage to get the tube to look like a tube again.

The lock block attaches to the barrel by a circlip type thing which is easy to do when not on the scooter but it appears to me that the lock block needs to be inserted at one end of the tube whilst the ignition barrel needs to be inserted via the other end through the lock body, the bit that says ignition, off, on.

How on earth do you marry them up and then get the circlip in.

I have searched Youtube for days but have had no luck.

Failing this, what would the MOT tester make of a homemade ignition switch that turns the bike on but the starter only works when I hold the chip near where the ignition is supposed to be?

Thanks for any help. Was hoping to have the darn thing back on the road today.

Better manual?

I can't disassemble my neighbours Vespa to have a look, but maybe this manual will help?

Similiar problem in german forum

Or you could pinpoint the problem on the upper link and show us where you got stuck?
