Hi all,

This year I would like to start motorcycle touring. I think the best way to start is probably to stay in the UK where we drive/ride on the correct side smile

I would also like to keep the costs down, I would like recommendations for tour companies and specific yours if possible. I live near Leeds (West Yorkshire) and would like to go July onwards (due to work commitments up until June).

Thanks in advance

Have a look at websites like bestbritishbikingroads.com and put a tour together yourself, it's not that dificult and you work around your own time table and interests.

or

www.rapidtraining.co.uk run tours. I instruct for them but not partaken in the tours as yet, I know the 2019 dates are up on their Facebook page now. They have UK (Wales and Scotland etc) and Euro tours going on this year.

There's also Grand Tour Motorcycle Adventures a friend runs. Again check facebook and website for details

We have some beautiful parts of the UK, and some stunning roads, but don't be put off going over to France/Spain. You adjust very quickly to the wrong side of the road, and drivers are generally much more bike friendly. The roads are infinitely better, the food is great, the weather is nicer, it's an experience..

I run some laid back tours in the UK under the umbrella of 'The Garbage Run'. They started out as Land's End to John o'groats tours taking in all the back roads, camping, and on whatever bike you like. I do a few more different ones now but I think the main thing is that travelling in the UK is still a fantastic place to ride, whether you go on a tour or solo. Head to Wales, or Scotland, Cornwall etc. Do it at your own pace, camp or B&B.

My website's www.thegarbagerun.com but I'm happy to share the digital route I use if you fancy going solo.

I just did my own thing and did a lap of wales by just picking a place to stay on the south coast then one on the north coast, the route was just a random one keeping off the main roads.

Just pick a few places to go to about 100 or so miles apart and go for it.

Why do you want a tour company?

Even in the darkest highlands and islands, the only issue you could potentially encounter is the fuel station opening hours during Sundays/late at night, but these are found on google, and it's only an issue in very remote locations.

NC500, or 'Ride' magazine routes - loads on there.

Leaving my bike outside with just a disk lock/chain lock gives me the heebeegeebees, but, you just have to do it. And, have decent insurance.
