Street Triple 765 RS or R Nine T?
Discussion
Appreciate that these are quite different bikes and there is significant subjectivity here.
Am coming back to biking after a few years out (my last 2 bikes were stolen...). My last bikes were Fireblade, R1, Fireblade.
Am looking for something with flat bars that is fun to ride - for London plus will keep up with mates out of town on a weekend blast.
I test rode a Street 765 RS and really liked it. I test rode a Speed Triple RS at the same time - I expected to like to torque of the Speed Triple more but (without wanting to provoke a forum argument) preferred the Street, personally. Great noise, fantastic throttle response / fuelling, nimble fuelling - whilst obviously not as quick, it felt like it spun up pretty well (better than I expected - R6 it was not). You really feel you're riding it, rather than just being a passenger. It was a cold and wet day and the first time in 4 years I'd ridden a bike, which may have been a factor.
Thinking about cost of ownership, the previous gen Street Triple Triumphs provide a relevant value benchmark, I assume that the current Streets will continue to drop down to £4k or so level over a few years?
I have also been interested in the R Nine T since they launched - great looks, great sound and seem to hold their money well - seems to be very little asking below £8k, although Im not sure what price they actually clear at - there are quite a few for sale.
Obviously a much heavier bike and I understand can benefit from suspension upgrades if you want sporty handling (which I assume would substantially change the costs of ownership?). Online/ Youtube reviews all seem to really rate the bike. Perhaps a bit boring sounding, but I also have the sense that an R Nine T will just be less attractive to thieves, which is a material consideration.
Would like to ride the BMW before making the choice - and a test ride would probably fix this in my mind fairly quickly - but for various reasons I am unable to get to the BMW dealership for a while.
Hence, here I am. Would really appreciate any thoughts...

I'm slightly biased here as I used to work for a Motorrad dealer but the R Nine T is a great bike. Bags of torque, lots of customisation options available and generally such a fun bike to ride. ABS can be turned off if you like (and ASC if the bike was specced with it).
I left in October but at that time there was 2 years warranty available on approved used bikes if bought from a Motorrad dealer.
Just look out for corrosion on the exhausts and the front engine casing.
If you need any help, feel free to PM me.

Depends what you want out of it?
R-Nine-T is agricultural pootling, the Speed is more refined speed. Both will get you into trouble with the po-l-ice when you want it to.
If you want something that will slow you down and make riding an occasion between cafes then the BMW, if you want something for a slight hoon (based on your previous bikes - ignoring the 4 year gap) then the Triple. The R-Nine-T is sub-100hp, the Triple is +120hp.
Never ridden the Triple. Ridden the R-Nine-T, and will buy one.. eventually.
