The Bulldog bash
Discussion
Anybody here go to the bulldog bash, or south coast custom bike do in the 90's?
The Bulldog was bi annual at first, i had mates with anything from a Harley shovel head hardtail to a new Cbr600fm and GS1000, triumph bonnie etc.. We would start preparing bikes and tents a week before and set off on a Friday afternoon and normally be looking something like this by 8 o'clock
Well one year i started amateur motocross racing again and broke my left tib and fibular in may and come August( bulldog time) was still in plaster with complications _ i was pleased i never made for 2 reasons, 1 it was getting too roughdy, 2_ there was the / a massive explosion from a gas canister.. i remember seeing the pictures in Mcn , think it died a death shortly after?

Gratuitous picture of my 88/89 Cr500, it wasn't popular with the neighbours

Was there in 2009 for Motorhead. Got really pissed, 6 inches of mud everywhere. Got up in the night for a piss, was laughing to myself how i was going to piss on my mates tent as I pulled my boots on, fell over backwards (see the drunk comment) and flattened my tent snapping the poles.
I don't know where it fitted in to the chronology of the Bulldog but that HA who was shot off his bike on the M40 was on his way back from there I believe.
I know someone who runs a small full-patch club, and the hoops you have to jump through to keep the Angels happy (in other words, to stop them from exacting physical or material retribution) are utterly unbelievable. I honestly can't see the point, not even slightly. With no patches, I can ride my bikes wherever I want to with whoever I want to.

Strangely enough I rode my Kawasaki ZX6R from Birmingham to Reading down that stretch of the M40 about an hour before he was shot. I got home, put the radio on to unpack, reports came in off ‘biker shot dead whilst riding on M40’. Gave me the strangest of chills at the time!
The BB very much died a few years after that, the Police objected in the strongest terms to it getting a licence.

I was there the year the gas canister exploded, iirc someone working in a 7.5t chip van tipped a bucket of chips into the fryer without draining off the water causing a bloody big fire which then cooked off the gas canisters.
I was there that year - I think it was the same year that Hawkwind were on. They were utter s
te - just some thumping and tons of smoke so you could only see their feet. I've still got a T shirt from 1986...
I went for lots of years through the 80s, 2 up on an FZR600 was the least enjoyable trip there and back, the most enjoyable was flat out on a ZXR750J1 with another ZXR750, 900 Blade and a 1200 bandit...
Happy days of drinking looking at motorbikes and err, other stuff

Epic weekend.
Went every year from the 4th one to the12th. Remember the chip van going up. A cylinder went into the market like a torpedo and a bunch of us physically carried a couple of stalls out the way. Another guy cut the pipe off a cylinder and ran away with it to safety. He must have had big balls, as it was steaming and the paint was discoloring.
I put the V Max down the strip a couple of times, got a photo of me with Vanessa Warwick and my mate slept in a drainage ditch after too much consumption. I miss it and would love to go back.

My main memory of the Bash (from about 87 ish) was seeing a big crowd all watching something going on after darkness had fallen but I couldnt see what they were looking at. I could hear motorbike engines though so i started working my way through the crowd.
All of a sudden i got to a gap in the crowd and all i could see was another crowd staring back at me about two feet away!
It was about that time when a bike came roaring down the 'alleyway' of people on its back wheel. Had i stuck my tongue out i could have licked the end of his handlebars as he shot passed at god knows what speed!
I nearly shat myself..
