I am a recent returner to the bike world having bought a 67 reg KTM Duke 390 about 6 months ago. I have an old Oxford paddock stand which has the "L" cups rather than the "forks" for bobbins, however it does not feel that stable so I have decided to go to bobbins and a new stand.

The question is, having had a look on the internet, how do I know which ones I need? The bike has 2 tapped holes in the swing arm, one above the other, which look to be 6mm and 8mm holes so I guess for bobbins but why have 2 holes? Also there seem to be numerous different styles of bobbin, what is the reason behind that and how do you know which ones you need?

And finally, given the different styles of bobbin, will they all be usable with any paddock stand or are there different sizes of forks on those?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Don't go for the stupidly small ones at £8 from your bike shop. My dad fitted these to his Daytona, I went to lift it one day and never had it quite lined up correctly as it was such a tight margin to get it inline It caught and I scratched his frame.

To make matters worse he sold me this Daytona so now I have to live with this scratch every fking day....bd.

my dad got these for his street all I'm going to say having had loads, these are fking sleek and the perfect size. Pricey, but I love them and they aren't even on my bike.

It was for the first Street Triple I bought the ste bobbins, the Daytona has Triumph branded ones, it was your sheer cackhandedness (and pretty crap paddock stand) that scratched the swing arm.

2017 390. I can find the part numbers of the rear bobbins if you wish. I find this very stable.

I fitted an evotech tail tidy to my bike, expensive but it's beautiful. Worth the price.

Thanks, that's great and I will order a set of those and a new paddock stand.

Out of interest, what are the threaded holes, above the ones where the bobbins go, used for?

Evotech here ... they not only act as bobbins for the paddock stand but also prevent the swingarm from getting damaged (unless you are MTB) ... my R1 went down hard on the left hand side ... the swing arm was unmarked due to the evotech bobbin smile

Hi

Just getting round to ordering, I think your bike is the same as mine (latest model 67 reg KTM Duke 390), is it 10mm or 8mm bobbins I need?

Thanks

Phil

Its a chuckable thing, very light and agile. Bought it new in 2017 as a 50th birthday present to myself. Just about to add a "rapid bike easy" to lose some of the low speed jerkiness of the single engine. Loving it so far though. A breath of fresh air after riding my BMW K1100 RS that's getting a bit heavy to move around the garage (although fine when moving).

Bought mine second hand to get back into biking, been an ideal re-introduction, light, nippy, easy to ride but quick enough to have some fun...
