Anyone taken delivery yet ? Had a sit on the non R, base model the other day. Seat is like a plank and far too wide for me. Loved its " light weight" ( no fuel in it ) but not so sure about the considerable width of those low slung fuel tanks.
However, really looking forward to trying the R version. Pricey @ nigh on £12 grand though, but thinking it would be a keeper.
I went for a look at/sit on the R in P'boro the other day and as much as I love the purposeful looks, I came away wanting a 1090 R instead.
Probably because, being honest with myself, it'll be for 95% road duties and touring, with 5% green lanes/other use and the 1090 would be better suited plus, the 790 lower fork guards are a straight fit to the 1090 and with a 'high-fender' kit, I can still play Dakar Racer

Friend has the Adventure R - I've had a shot on the road - it's some machine. It's light, but not too light. Really well balanced, great power delivery from the engine - easy to pop a wheelie if needed
He's done about 400miles offroad and so far, he really likes it. He has a 690 and a 1290 Adventure - this is perfect balance of the two - not too light/flighty, not too heavy.
He's about to post his proper review - I'll post the link when it's live.

The 790r adventures are taking part in the Merzouga rally right now, very capable bikes by the looks of things!
A friend of mine is riding one fully supported by KTM - Jordan Huibregtse, check out the results here:

Looks like an awesome bike for somewhere flat and fast (like the gravel stuff all the adverts are shot on) - would be great in Africa where I've found big Adv bikes too big but the distances mean anything smaller struggles to hold high speeds all day long in comfort.
But in the UK...where off road means ruts, woods, rocks....and pretty much the same if you get over to France/Spain, etc - still too heavy.
Prob fine for the guys that green lane once a year by taking a byway for 100 yards before getting back on tar - but not sure I'd want to cross the Pyrenees on it (or Wales, for that matter)

We were at Haggs Bank at the weekend - ruts, woods, rocks, boulders - everything. The 790 was in it's element. Mind you, so was the 1290 Adv R and my Africa Twin - these bikes are general way more capable than their riders. I'm nowhere near finding the limits of the AT offroad yet, but apart from pure mud, a big Adventure bike is a very capable machine. To suggest a 790 Adv R is only a Green Lane bike? Way off the mark - you need to get one out and ride it then decide! (I think Sweet Lamb have a fleet already)
I was on the V-Strom 1000 that weekend. A bit low for clearance but some great lanes up there.
I did have a quick spin on the 790 Adventure R. It's an interesting beast. Not for me; too much technology and I'm not convinced it's going to live up to the hype once the launch buzz wears of. But time will tell I guess.

I'll try one, just cant belive it will make me think something so heavy is a good idea in technical terrain.
