After only 10 months. This normal?

And I'm not talking about taking it off and on a number of times a day. Mainly just covered a bike with the odd day out.

Now already weak and tearing.

Not had problems with mine, had it about a year, basic aquatex one not any kind of heavy duty or premium version.
Sure it's a legit one?

Sure it was. From a reputable dealer. Came in the little plastic zip up case. XL with top box.

Now ripping like paper. Aquatex about £40.

That sounds dodgy - in my experience they usually last a good five years before starting to go stiff and tearing. IMO they’re one of Oxford’s better products. I’ve always used them and am only on my second. I now use the fancy top-spec heavy duty one on my 1198 (bit big because it was bought for my Multistrada and luggage) and it’s great

Had mine for 7 months and the parts that contact the mirrors have started to fray, one side is actually slightly torn.

I think for the Pryce you can't expect too much but yeah, annoying.

I had the same experience with an Aquatex cover, I had to bin it at 12 months old as it had ripped through at both mirrors and the rest had gone very brittle and delicate. That one came from the Oxford stand at Motorcycle Live too so it was definitely genuine. Fortunately I've got a garage now so don't need to bother.

The straps came off mine and it also ripped. Threw it away in the end.

Absolute rubbish compared to other Oxford products

I've had a couple, the lighter one and the heavy duty one and to be honest both were rubbish.

But there again I've had other makes and they haven't lasted much longer so if anybody has any recommendations i'd be grateful.

Had a couple of Stormex, they last longer than a year but showing signs of wear with taped seams coming away at less than 12 months old. Its a case for me of they were better than nothing while my bike had to live outside and in thief central in East London by making it more difficult to see what was underneath it as I locked it on. Previously had a couple of canvas covers which both got stolen despite them being dirty and worn.

I had a Rainex that lasted a good 2-3 years before the sliver part went crispy and tore. I've used the Stormex for around 3 years most days and only noticed the seams are coming untapped.

I have however kept them both out of direct sunlight.

My one has spent it's life in a suntrap, when it is sunny.

I might try and see if I kept the receipt as surely there must be some comeback with it being less than a year old.

I paid 40 odd quid as I bought it from a motorcycle accessories shop. Could have got it for less off eBay.

The covers are good providing you keep them out of the sun. I think the thin JDC covers suffer the same UV degradation.

The thick 'heavy duty' covers seem to hold up better.

Maybe you got a duff one?

I have an Oxford top cover on my bike which I have used every day for over a year now and apart from looking a little grubby, it still fits like new.

edit: mostly out of the sun which seems to make a difference.

Like I said, it sits in a suntrap so it's baking when sunny. Explains why it feels brittle.
