Any suggestions for a 1 day route or just some decent roads?

You could head for Winster from Matlock, take B5056 then A6 to Bakewell, through Hassop to Calver crossroads then A623 to Peak Forest/Sparrowpit, turn right at Sparrowpit or carry on to Chapel en le Frith and take a right there to go back towards Blue John cavern/Castleton down A6187 to Hope Valley then either turn off towards Bamford and do A57 snake pass towards Glossop and come back or go other direction towards Sheffield, nice road either direction or insteads you can carry on down the A6187 towards Hathersage and take a left somewhere up on to the moors outside Sheffield.

Or ignore all of that and go where the mood takes you - plenty of decent smaller roads but the ones above offer a decent vista as well as generally nice to ride.

Watch out for Scamera vans on the main roads. Don't seem to be too abundant these days but it only takes one to ruin your day!

Watch out for the mobile speed camera vans on Snake Pass at the Ladybower end.
