Going this year 31st until 9th staying in Port Erin. Great place to stay, especially as some of our crowd take Enduro bikes. Nine of us in 2 houses, all into our 50's and hoping we don't become the 'mobile chicane' types.

Hi
Yes I will be there for race week, my 29th visit since ‘81.
This time, for the first time, will be arriving by car taking my W204 C63 Red Estate.
Flying, walking and the weekly bus rider ticket has done me very well over the years but am looking forward to accessing some different places this year, plus I am 1 1/2 stone lighter than last year.

I've gone by van last 2 times I've gone, this will be the first time I ride there... Which tbh I reckon is going to be horrible

I'll be fitting the top box and taking off once there as we are doing a house share this year. I've done hotels twice but they are so expensive in comparison and having used a house 2 years ago when I last went this is a much better way to stay in my opinion

Need to change my tyres too. 2200 miles from my rear supercorsa and it's done. I have maybe 1000 miles in the middle but Germany has put the sides past the wear markers now and would be nick

Is the little Irish bloke with the impossibly black hair going to be back doing the TV presentation?

Or are we going to have a row of under achievers again?

Birky, I’m down in Sussex and have ridden twice now, we always avoid the motorways and take the scenic route, give ourselves plenty of time and have a few stops on the way, always had a laugh when riding there like that.
We’re taking vans this time round though, and to be honest I think I’d rather ride as It always seems a bit more of an adventure like that.

Birky, I'm in London, and that's not the way I'd go to the Isle of Man if time were permitting. I went to Glasgow the other week with an overnight stop at Warrington. I came off the M40 at Oxford and then went Banbury, Stratford upon Avon, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch. You could easily adapt this route to go to the ferry terminal.

Another option from your neck of the woods is to go up the A1 and then head for Melton Mowbray. Cracking roads around there, stop for a pie, then up the A501 I think it is to Ashbourne and over the Peak District and the Cat and Fiddle. Yes, the latter has the 50mph averages, but from our end of the world it's still worth doing.

Also for going north M40 is way better than M1

Saved that link some handy bits in there

As for directions anyone any good at making a better route from Essex that I can put onto Google it'll be greatly appreciated!

Check in closes just after midnight. I'm at a wedding in the day but double booked myself so need to leave there early, get home (I'll already be packed) to get on the bike and go. Ideally I'd like to leave around 7ish pm so if there's a better route that's 5hrs or less I'm cool with that

Hard to avoid the M6. Be aware it can be a total st and it’s taken me 6 hours in the car from Bedfordshire to Liverpool several times. I’d leave a little earlier and plan the most direct route possible. Also M6 is plagued by roadworks which come out at night. They shut the bloody thing and divert the traffic onto backroads. For years now we’ve either flown or gone up the night before to stay in a hotel and catch the 8am ferry. Nearly missed the bloody boat on at least several occasions due to traffic.

Newbies going on the TL with a mate on a Harley 48 - peanut tank range of about 50-60 miles?!? Sort of planned the 250 mile trip up/back but might still just load the bikes into a van (which I don't have) and park (assuming we can find space) this side (totally missing the point?!) - that said if the weather up/down is like yesterday we'll need oars........frown

Friends are going in their T5 staying in Douglas; I have cadged tent and supplies space to reduce all up travelling weight (the TL is heavy enough with me on it!!)

Staying in Peel; at the Football club.......

Yup, again this year. 29th to the 5th. A bit of practice week, first couple of race days weather permitting. .Have done this before and find it a good compromise. Nice couple of days riding before the hoards arrive for race week. Anyway....

Ride up to Liverpool from Hertfordshire was st last year, cold, and miserable (left at 2am) and loads of roadworks/endless 50 limits.

If you go up the night before, be very careful of your bikes. Lots of scrotes taking advantage of all the nice bikes. I wouldn't even leave mine unattended in the ferry queue as there were some hood rats loitering around nearby.

Really? Jesus...

To be fair I rarely let mine go out of site. I will be riding straight from a wedding and allowing 4hrs 30 mins based on me leaving 7.30pm. Best I can do but I know Im leaving it tight
