50 vs 55 profile
Discussion
Just checking what differences to expect if I fit a 55 profile rear to the R1 rather then 50? The 55 will be slightly taller so I guess it quickens the steering a touch, but is there anything else to think about?
Only reason for asking is that there seems to be more choice in the 55 profile than the 50.

If you look into it too much it all gets a bit scientific with different brands and what one states is a 190/55 vs another
But in summary a 55 typically turns in quicker and makes the bike feel a bit more agile. It gives more side grip at the expense of centre stability (I think have that right) and for me is the preferred profile for road riding
My MV Dragster RR had a 200/50 from factory, I changed it to a 200/55 and found it much better through the twisties
I have also used 190/60 profiles on the road...and that is too much!

This will be entirely unhelpful as I don't have any experience yet but I've just ordered a pair of s22 tyres for the fireblade with a 55 rear instead of the standard 50. I'll fit them at the weekend and report back. It's a popular change on the cbr1000rr forum due to the quicker steering and additional side grip apparently.

try here for diameter and % difference. This is my preferred site, as it gives the all-important rolling circumference for speedo difference. Of course, in-wheel arch differences may also be important to. Put your hand in to see what existing clearances you have between inside of tyre and lower spring seat on front shock, as one example. Some cars allow for snow chain clearance, others will assume you will have smaller tyres if you use snow-chains.

Sorry, just realised it is for a motor cycle. The site should accommodate dimensions for those sizes, but will the bike?

I fitted the 55 rear tyre this weekend and it makes my 2007 cbr1000rr turn in a lot faster. It feels much more nimble and you get used to it very quickly. Can't comment on side grip as the s22s I've fitted feel completely different to the t30s I had on before so I don't know whether to attribute the change to the the of the tyre size or both.
