Picked up my new (to me; lightly-used) MT10 today...
As per the title, really, I haven`t enough superlatives really for this bike, it`s just immense !
It does absolutely everything you could want; you can pootle about if you wish, it handles, it`s comfortable, it has "toys", it sounds the business, and then on top of all that, it has THAT power-delivery !!
Yamaha pulled off a great trick here, of dropping all the torque from that fantastic R1 engine to the bottom of the curve, instead of the top, which is just were you want it on a road-bike.
I`ve owned loads of bikes over the years, but I would never have believed anyone could produce a bike as good as this; I really think it`s that good.
In short, thanks Yamaha for developing and producing an epic, epic bike !

They really are a very very good bike and you have to really look into areas to start finding fault. Given the price especially on launch you won't find much better in the litre class
Nemesis on here is a potent rider so I'm sure can advise. My two guys I ride every week when they owned theirs (one did 16k other did nearly 30k on his) both needed to change front pads and fluid as they found the lever would go all the way to the bar when ridden hard for a while
Build quality in a couple areas needs a bit more love / acf50 too
You've chosen a great bike there just get used to wheelies... Alot 😉

Enjoy! So.d mine last year, it’s a great road bike I had mine 2 years, defatted with Leo Vince link pipe and Akro end can, it’s loud!, I got a baffle for trackdays.
If you have a problem with snatchy throttle give Andy a call at junction33 in Lancs, I posted my ecu to him and he remapped it, made a world of difference.
As Birky said, change your pads to something like Brembo road and track, far better feel and get the suspension set up, I dropped the yokes by 10mm which made it turn more sweetly.
Makes a brilliant touring bike with the comfort seat, but watch the front corners as they rub throughon the tank, easily sorted though.

Thanks gents for the replies; some good, helpful info there for a new owner !
I`ve owned loads of bikes over the years, mainly sportsbikes - Fireblades, R1, Gixers, ZX`s, - you name it, all sorts, and now at nearly 56, I`m no longer anything like "quick" (was I ever ? LOL), but I still enjoy the thrill of a really quick bike for the road, as I`ve always felt that that was what motorcycling was all about - speed, freedom, and the buzz that those gave you !
Around 8/9 years ago I started to come around to the acceptance that a Sportsbike was getting a bit too uncomfortable for me (neck, wrists, back etc...), and started riding naked bikes. I bought a Fazer 1000 first, then a Tuono (the twin), which was an ACE bike, and I loved it.
Serious illness then unfortunately struck the wife (she`s okay now, though), and the bikes went, as I had neither time nor inclination at that point.
Fast-forward to now, and I found myself wanting a bike again. I test-rode one or two in February this year, and ended up buying a Kawasaki Z1000R - gen4 for those that know. This was an excellent bike, nothing wrong with it at all, but, as usual, fate intervenes as it does, and whilst having a minute round at a local dealer`s, I was offered a test-ride on their MT10.
I remembered how good my Fazer had been back when I had it, and how I really wished they`d drop in the Crossplane engine that they`d recently brought out for the R1 back then, well bloody hell..........!! I could NOT believe how good the MT10 was when I rode it !
This thing made my Zed thou` feel like a plank of wood, in every way (sorry to any Zed fans on here, but it`s true), and once you`ve had the hit from that addictive Crossplane engine, with the way they`ve engineered the power-delivery, then it`s really all over, or it was for me, at any rate !
I`ve always enjoyed my V-twins in the past, starting with a Honda Firestorm, Suzuki TL1000R, then an Aprilia RSV, a Honda VTR SP1, and later the Tuono, and I`ve always loved the sound, the vibe, and the feeling they give at low revs, accompanied by the grunt when you whack open the throttle. I simply cannot believe how Yamaha have managed to somehow replicate all of this, but in a 4-cylinder engine, so you`re still getting a top-end as well with it.
Just what a bike, WHAT. A. BIKE !!

Has anyone tried the MT10Sp directly against the S1000R?
I borrowed an MT10Sp when my Tracer was in for a service, same experiance as the OP, fantastic thing, i want one.
Seems the BMW is better on paper though, i'm going to test ride one before any purchasing, but i just wondered what other people think?
If S1000R, i won't be buying one until after the facelift is delivered.
Thanks
Matt

They are indeed a decent tool a few weeks ago a friend damaged his Panigale just ahead of our Aragon trip with No Limits, he took his MT10 with him and until day 3 when the pace had really upped he was more than holding his own in the fast group, was hustling it round well .....
Enjoy the new bike ...

I had nigh on committed to buying the MT10 but test rode a S1000R and a Speed triple, I preferred the BMW so bought one of those instead, id suggest you do the same and see what you think.I borrowed an MT10Sp when my Tracer was in for a service, same experiance as the OP, fantastic thing, i want one.
