Just a quick one, but is the Almax range of chains with the Squire locks, the "goto" for bike security still?

Brought an 19mm 1.5m Almax chain and Squire lock, about 5 years ago, but some bugger has messed about with the lock, which i cannot open anymore with my key.
Thankfully the bike wasn't locked up at the time, it was sitting in my garage over winter. But i'm now looking for a new lock and chain.

Pragmasis or Almax are both good (I have one of each). IIRC anything over 16mm in either can't be bolt cropped, any thicker than that adds extra time taken with an angle grinder to a persistent thief. I'd recommend a chain with a noose so you can pass the rest of it through it, 1.5m for me is a good length and for more useful than the 2m non-noose chain I have.

Yes as others have said Almax or Pragmasis. I use the Pragmasis 16mm chain at home and 13mm noose chain when parking the bike near work. I also use the Pragmasis d-lock instead of a Squire lock.

Just wanted to add, are you looking for an additional chain to the one you have? From what you said you can't open the lock but surely the chain itself is fine?

The chain itself is fine. Someone has damaged the key hole, so my key doesn't work anymore.
However the chain is looped around a railing, so i can't use it, unless i saw it off.

Thanks for the suggestions, will take a look at the 16mm to 19mm chains now.

I went with the Pragmasis 19mm and their round lock, then followed up with the 22mm and the corresponding Squire lock.

Pragmasis 16mm and Pragmasis 19mm chains, Pragmasis Torc ground anchors, and the Squire padlocks.

I only use these at home - they're way to heavy to take on the bike anywhere.

Hire an angle grinder from HSS for £7.20 a day and just buy a new squire padlock. No need to buy a new chain if you've already got one. Job jobbed.
