Last year my brother turned 40, so decided he wanted a bike from his birth year (1978). He bought a Moto Morini 3.5 Sport.

As my 40th will be next year it’s got me thinking what would I buy. And I may do yet hehe

From 1980 the choices are a bit limited; MH Ducati is a cool option but tons of cash for a whim.

This is winning at the moment, Benelli 250/4: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1114186

So, assuming you have a notable birthday approaching what bike from your year of birth would you buy?

My year so Google says. I went with a brand I've owned and Italian as typically that's all I ride on the road

Good work! Is it a 4 speeder? We have a 1967 D10 Sport which is smile

It’s funny, I went and had a glass of wine with my old man tonight and he’s been out on the bantam today. Reckons it’s as good as any old bike, they are massively underrated!

I've just had a look at the prices being asked for 1959 Bonnevilles eek

Just a little bit too much to tempt me back onto two wheels, I'm afraid!

No 3 speed, and a massive grin on my face on any sunny day guaranteed. Everywhere I take it someone will always say" I used to have one of those".

The grin is the key to old bikes!

I have been idly looking at this for a while, a cbx1100 or z1300 are tempting for their 6 cylinder uniqueness but the complexity and cost make a z50 or kv75 more likely smile

What a great idea for another bike .....just need to get it funded some how smile

...I already have a birth year watch, a birth year bike would be even better....now where did that lottery win go, I will take an old MV 750S smile

That would be my shout for 1980, but i think it's classed as a 1000cc, 1047cc so nearer to 1000 than 1100.

I'd need to go back to 61...and there's nothing I want to ride from that era, unless they had Harleys with a suicide shift, quite fancy that.

I’ve been toying with this an idea for some time, car too (tax and MOT exempt so man maths really work out), but i’m thinking i might/will need to be decent with a spanner. It might/never always run. It could/will get interesting. I might/cant grow a beard. The man maths might/wont work out. The missus might/wont be very happy. I need/must have a ‘78 - perusing the classifieds now. God damn you op!
