Any one here got /had a 916?
Discussion
Any advice?
I'm after something for fun as I don't use the blade for commuting anyomre. I appreciate the reliability and servicing point but wondered if any PHers had a 916?
I'm (almost considering) selling my RRW Anniversary Blade to get one. A friend of a friend has one for sale when I'm ready...
red 916BP, 98 R reg, 6,500 miles, standard exhausts and Termignoni carbon race exhausts, 12 months mot, £4,500.
Cheers!

It's a crying shame they're that cheap, I paid £5,800 for a 2000 748 last year
A couple of points
If you replace the cans you'll need to change the fuel managment, there'll probably be a chip that comes with it
I bought a 748, brilliant. Get yourself on a few track days and their character really comes out.
Don't be one of these tw@s with inch wide chicken strips did someone mention the Ducati sporting club

Just ask him if he wouldn't mind .... cough .... servicing it first.
That sort of mileage and age means it will be overdue its belt change (6000m or 12 months) unless it has been done very recently.
As for reliability, the main weakness on 916s of that era appears to be the electrics - in particular, the rectifiers. A mate used to carry one spare, just in case.

Rectifiers, did someone mention rectifiers.... They were the bane of my life with the 888 until I found a company in the states called electrex (Now electrosport) https://www.electrosport.com/
Replacement Ducati rectifiers that work, don't shake themselves to bits and actually keep your battery charged.
Very very recommended

I've got a 916, a 1998 had since new (pic on profile), no major problems or reliability issues but I keep it maintained properly which means no skimping on the servicing. It is a great bike and although people will say it's old, it's underpowered etc it's still a ferkin' good bike it may lack 40 or 50 hp from the latest/greatest sportbikes but when I can ride it at 100% of it's ability and be bored, I'll consider something quicker.
And it looks & sounds better than any other bike!
Anything you want to know just ask!

I had a 916 for 3 years.......best bike i ever owned.
Only problems in all that time were:
Sprag(?) clutch needed replacing..(Try bump starting a Duke!!!)
Another time bike wouldn't start..just clicked and buzzed, i replaced the relay doing the buzzing..turned out to be a loose battery terminal...doh
Other than that...no probs, did over 5000 miles, with all servicing done with dealer (Ducati London)
Top bike..!
