Morning,

I’m asking on behalf of my father!

I always think of the Drz400’s as a good allrounder do anything kind of bike whilst being very reliable. Now what would people suggest as being a modern day Drz equivalent ie good for long distance, roads, motorways, commenting whist still being able to do some green lanes on a weekend and not sacrificing reliability etc?

Long forward to hearing your opinions.

Thanks.

Husqvarna 701 Enduro??

All depends on budget I suppose but it's a big old thumper that will likely take everything you can throw at it and more, capable of but not entirely focussed on-road or off-road.

I wouldn't say the drz is particularly good for long distance or motorways. What it was good at was being a reasonable off roader, that's fairly reliable and cheap to run.

I would think any of the 4 big Japanese would make something equally good.

A lot of the euro stuff (on the whole) is a little more focused and shorter service intervals.

What does he want to do with it?

Might be worth waiting a while, with KTM making the 390 in Duke & Adventure styles, Prototypes of a SM model have been seen, surely a 390 Enduro/Enduro R would be along soon - definitely a modern day DRZ400?

I wanted a proper 'trail' bike (already have a Gasgas TXT250 and Montesa 4Ride for proper off road), bought a CRF250, great all-rounder but not much after 70mph. Saying that, CRF450L, sounds nice (ignore the mis-quoted 24hp) but fairly pricey.
