Bought a standard red 999 from a Ducati dealer today. One owner, built 2006, 30k km, full Ducati SH, some scratches, but generally very original and tidy. Before I pick it up, the dealer is carrying out a major service including belt change, valve adjustment and new battery.

So, I paid 3900€ (3500 pounds) and I am very happy with the deal...I will be asking some questions on here and I really appreciate any advice.

I’ll take a few pics to post up when I pick it up. Can’t wait!

Lovely bikes with a design that, in my mind, was way ahead of it's time and has aged incredibly well. Have owned a 749S and have a 999S and love 'em.

Been looking at picking up a 999R while MrsDesmoTip is not around and there are a few really good examples over her in the States.

Some of my best biking memories are on my 749S when I lived in Barcelona...sigh.

Nice! I keep looking at 749's and 999's, they seem like great value at the moment

Very nice, I've wanted one (or a749) for years, but currently only have space for the one bike.
Still keep eyeing up the 749 Dark though....
Enjoy!

Totally agree with you. When it came out I remember thinking 'What the actual F*ck is that???'.

The new design was so different from what we were used to with the 916's through to the 998's. I hated it.

Fast forward 15 years or so and today I would buy one if I had the money.

Good work! A design that has definitely aged well. Quite fancy one myself as they seem like value.

There was a 999 love-in thread here a couple of years ago but it got deleted!

Thanks for all the replies, as soon as I get it I will post a load of photos!

My last road bike was a Honda SP1...I owned it for 3 years and I loved it! Around 14 odd years ago I spent a great day riding around Wales on it, accompanied by two friends, one on an Aprilia RSV and the other on a 999. I rode both, which was interesting, as a direct comparison to the SP1. The Aprilia felt super odd, weak, very loose and baggy. The Ducati felt very different to my Honda... low, long and lean...but I really enjoyed it, it felt mega precise and weirdly exotic!

I moved to Australia with the SP1, but sold it very quickly as soon as I realised how heavily policed the area I lived in was. I bought a trail bike, and rode that a lot...now I live in Southern Germany, with amazing roads (with little police activity) all around me, amazing weather too, and I have a a few friends that ride for fun.

So 999 it is.

Very nice, a better bike than the 998 even though many say not as pretty.

A 999 in that Martini scheme did a fly past Saturday night near Jacks cafe on the A5, sounded and looked awesome...

Congrats on the purchase OP..
