Ducati Multistrada 100% Cutting out
Discussion
Evening all,
Did a search and cant find a similar thread,
I have a 67 Plate Ducati Multistrada 1200 S and for the past two days its developed a rather alarming fault....
Riding home slightly above the motorway limit
the bike decided to completely cut out, I mean ignition off, no display, no power....
As you may suspect, this was not ideal in the outside lane overtaking traffic. I pull over on the hard shoulder, restart, and ride home without incident.
Next morning riding into work (yes i probably shouldn't have) it does the same but thankfully just as i get to work.
I decided to ride it home (yes i know i really shouldn't have) and again on the M1 (this time i take it east) same again.
anyone heard of this issue? .......(waits for Italian electrics comments)

Update on this: i know you didn't ask.......
for anyone that experiences this, my issue was with the Key-less start. Apparently the Key and system where losing communication and shutting down.
Not ideal, but have to give a big thanks to Hyside Romford for the great service, restored my faith in the Ducati network.
as you were.....

Thanks, may i ask whether these new bikes have an actual key hole that you can put the key in or is it only pocket.
If so, did you have the key in the hole when this was happening ?
there is no key hole (aside from Petrol tank and Panniers). There is an area you can touch with the emergency key (red on Ducati, Blue on BMW) that you get in the New bike pack.If so, did you have the key in the hole when this was happening ?
the Key has to be within a meter to register the mobiliser and start engine. generally works well but as with all electronics, not without its faults.

That’s not great. How do you know the charge level of the key, or how to recharge it?for anyone that experiences this, my issue was with the Key-less start. Apparently the Key and system where losing communication and shutting down.

Also, the word I’ve highlighted is “were” not “where”. I’ve no idea where this came from, but it’s not great using completely the wrong world (see what I did there?)

Strange, on cars if this happens they don't cut out they just don't let you re-start the car again or change from drive to reverse or vice versa until a connection is made again.
Cutting out whilst riding is just crazy
Agree entirely... It's crazy, I would have thought it was obviously a safety issue.Cutting out whilst riding is just crazy
I mean what if the battery dies when you're riding?
Worse still, leant over, cornering and engine just dies....

Recent problems aside, how do you like the Multistrada 1200?
I had a 950 as a loan bike the other day and enjoyed it
the answer is yes and no, and that depends on what you want/need a bike for.I had a 950 as a loan bike the other day and enjoyed it
i would say that its definitely more fun than my old 1200GS, more agile and as comfy.
on the negatives, its Italian, and stored outside, so cold starts can be an issue, and the switch gear doesn't work as slickly as the German Machine.
Overall, i need a commuter, so on balance a GS would be better for me, but i certainly see the appeal of the 1200S (i bought one) and will most likely go back to BMW for my personal requirements.
When i live somewhere where i can store both, that's what i would do.
