Rode home from work last night and noticed a fairly large and straight cut on the rear tyre.

The cut is canny straight and does appear to be malicious to me? I know for sure that I haven't ran over anything or nicked it while I've been riding, or have I and just not noticed??

Luckily the tyre is about done anyway and due for replacement (which is my next dilemma) I just hope it wasn't malicious and I come out to find the new tyre has been cut too.

Thoughts?

Look like a screw tried to embed itself but failed. Hot sticky tyre can easily pick up things, and screws and nails are easy to miss.

Can't imagine someone who wanted to be malicious would cut the tyre but not deep enough to cause a puncture. Additionally, I knife cut should be cleaner/ straighter surely?

I’ve had similar before, no idea how it happened but I certainly never thought it was malicious

That's just road debris that's caused that.

Anyone deliberately cutting a tyre does the sidewall.

Allegedly...

How odd, I have just had to replace my not very old rear Tyre for a very similar cut?

Given the position on mine, I'm amazed I didn't notice anything happen and It half crossed my mind it was malicious but highly unlikely ultimately.

One thing I do see a lot and may be something to watch out for, is the spent laughing gas canisters that seem to be all over the roads - once flattened by cars they essentially turn into razor blades!

Looks like it could be down to some random item I've ran over then by the looks of it.

Anyway a new Power RS+ went on yesterday so all is well again.

That looks similar to something I had when I hit a cats eye road stud where the actual cats eye reflector thingy wasn't present - infact, its almost an identical tear/cut.

On this thread though - has anyone else noticed that there seems to be more general ste of nails/screws/etc. on the roads the last few months? I've picked up two screws in my rear tyre in the last few months and a chap at work last week had the dubious pleasure of picking up a tent peg through the centre and out the sidewall!
