Hi all,

I’m hoping you maybe to answer my quick question as I couldn’t find a complete answer on google.

I have an MOT station 500 yards from my house but they do not do maintenance on motorbikes. The bike in question (GSX-R600 - don’t shoot me!) has a warning light on the display and an expired MOT (I suspect one of the sensors again). The garage it goes to 20mins away for servicing etc is across town and ideally I’d prefer to ride it with it’s MOT completed for diagnosis and it’s annual service.

With the latest MOT laws do bikes receive an automatic fail (like cars) if displaying a warning light?

Thanks!

Not all warning lights are automatic fails.

What light is it?

Sorry it isn’t descriptive it’s a red light on the speedo. Previously when this occurred the garage I used changed one of the sensors which cancelled the light.

I would take it for it’s MOT if the warning light is not a fail happy days if it is a fail ride the 20 minutes to the other garage and get repaired and re-MOT. I think you can legally do that providing you ride straight to the repair garage after booking the bike in.

If the place that does your servicing also does mots, then book it in and ride it there.
Perfectly legal to ride a bike without an mot to a pre arranged test.

MOT Manuals >>>> https://www.gov.uk/topic/mot/manuals

I can't see any mention of check engine light or ABS warning or traction control warning.
