Owned a Thruxton, currently own a Thruxton r, but took the Speed twin for a few extended test rides before I bought the r. The engine is a joy, it does spin up a bit quicker than the Thruxton. Handling similar to the standard Thruxton but quicker turning in, not sure if that’s just the wider bars or down to set up. Not as good a ride as the r with its trick suspension but close and more scratchy (if that’s a word) to ride, the r is more stable and carves a line, if that makes sense.

I really enjoyed it and it was a close call. Try and get a test ride, you’ll have a wait for the bike if you buy one, very very popular at the moment and hence no deals.

Thanks...If I decided to buy one it would be shod with Maxton suspension which would sort out the ride.

I've never owned a big twin before how would you describe the performance of the 1200 v's the triples and four cylinder engines.

I’m really biased. I have always preferred twins. The engine has 270 crank so it sort of sounds like a v twin. It is wonderfully torquey and will surprise a lot of more powerful bikes as you wind it on out of corner. But, if you prefer a smooth reving fours it will feel lumpy. I prefer riding on torque rather than revs, personal choice.

The handling on the Speed twin is good as standard so I wouldn’t rush to upgrade, the standard shocks are fine it’s just the Ohlins on the r are lovely things!

Most Triumph dealers have got one as a test bike, It really is worth trying. thumbup

The last time I went for a test ride I ended up with the STR and a Daytona 675 before that so I know already know what will happen.

My STR has Maxton front and rear the difference is night and day over the stock set-up, I've run Maxton suspension on my bikes since 1994 its my first thing to do on a new bike.

The sensible thing to do would be wait till the winter when demand might be a bit lower then press the dealer a bit.

I'd already watched the videos's on the Speed Twin the 44 Teeth one was excellent...good channel that funny as fk.
