Bought a Thunderace last year for 421 notes as the winning bidder on ebay. It was advertised as a bike with parts missing as matey had bought it as a parts doner. I was told it was a runner when matey bought it.
Long story short- minor parts replaced and it fires up every time and ticks over quite nicely. Everything is good on the bike.
My dilema is getting it to the motorbike shop for its mot. Do I ride it (with tax and insurance), trailer it (as I will need a trailer some time in the near future, anyway... and with track day in mind), or call them out to collect?
I want to ride it but something keeps telling me not to!!

What would you do?

Book it in and ride it there! No point MOTing it if you're not going to ride it, just have breakdown cover in case it doesn't make it.

If the tyres aren't ruined and the brakes work, ride it! Take it easy, but why not?

I'd change the brake fluid and ride it there.

How will you tax it with no mot?

If it’s a short trip on roads not likely to have anpr I’d ride it otherwise transport it.

You do not need tax if you are riding to a pre-booked MOT.

Furry muff. Don’t know why op made a point of saying with tax because he won’t have it with no mot but as you say ok with a pre booked test appointment.

I just presumed one had to have tax to drive a vehicle to an mot station. It seems really strange that you don't!! I wonder what the thinking is behind that one??

There use to be a time, long ,long ago, where you would need a valid MOT and insurance to tax your vehicle after you had spent half hour waiting to hand over all the relevant paperwork to some grumpy old git in the post office. Lots of un MOT'd cars would need driving to MOT stations that were untaxed and not able to get it because of the rules. The MOT does need to be pre booked to be able to drive untaxed but it doesn't obviously bother the thousands driving around with no TAX, MOT or Insuarance everyday. You don't even need insurance anymore to be able to TAX a vehicle online anymore. Which seems more odd to me!

Do you not need insurance, or do you just not need to supply the details because it's all checked automatically? I thought it was all automatic, but I haven't spent too long thinking about it!

Insurance is checked daily and continuously via cross-referencing databases. Far more effective and rigorous than once a year as it used to be. It’s not going to stop people driving / riding without, but it does make targeting them to get them off the road much easier

I’ve just motd and taxed a bike that’s been SORNED for 7 years. Thought I was going to have to insure it but applied for tax online and it went through . Just needed to transfer the number plate so that saved some expense

Taxed but not insured? Expect a letter in a few weeks telling you to insure it or SORN it, or face a fine.

..... and if you ignore it you'll receive a £75 fine. if you don't pay it within two weeks the fine increases to £140.

No letter coming my way! Taxed it for the 10 minutes it to to get the plate off and then SORNED again. Paid for a months worth of tax because of DVLAs stupid rules.

It’s always been that way.

How did it go?
Big fan of the Thunderace, massively underrated road bike
