Jesus christ. One way to make the rest of the grid look mortal. Has there ever been a bigger gap to second in an FP session bar rain conditions?

No, just the man-machine interaction in his case is the best in the whole field, he and his Honda are one, he is his bike.

He's just incredible, hard to believe sometimes. What's even more remarkable is the patience HRC are showing with Lorenzo.

He's had terrible with crashes /injuries though hasnt he? It took him 12+ months to settle into ducati. Give him a chance!
As long as HRC will change what he needs then he'll get back to the podium.

Really? So the riders should be dispensable, fall, injury, and you are kicked out?
HRC should be ashamed of themselves after Puig said that JL has no courage or willingness to ride, after he almost broke his back. Puig, a no name in racing talking like that about 3 time world champion. Disgrace. All they care about is MM, I hope that approach bites them in the ass for a long time at one point.

Cant believe some people. Alberto Puig is by no means a "no mark" take a look at his wiki.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberto_Puig

I was in the stands as a guest of Tetsuya Harada/Yamaha at the 95 GP when Puig crashed. He was one tough mofo. So dont diss his ability. In the 500cc era he actually won a GP and had a few podiums.

Puigs comment was out of order assuming it was translated correctly. No one can accuse Lorenzo of being without courage.

1 win, and 9 podiums, in 10 years.
Now compare to 5 time world champion, with 47 wins and 114 podiums only in MotoGP, add to this wins and podiums in 250 and 125.
Yeah, I am impressed by no-courage-or-willingness Puig.

Just remind us all how many Grand Prix you have won, or WSBK or BSB or Club Races or any races ? FFS the guy rode 500cc 2 strokes when they were mean things.

I said his comment was out of order.

Why would they take the risk of him going back to ducati and possibly taking points of marquez ?

Marquez doesn't need a team mate , nobody else can ride the honda so it's not like marquez wants lorenzo's data .

This sums it up right here for me. HRC has the only guy to beat Marquez to a title and having seen how "good" the Honda is with the next best rider in 10th? in FP1/2? No one else can ride it but Marquez. Great, till he decides to try another manufacturer then where does that leave Honda.

Honda needn’t worry. Marc won’t try a different manufacturer until he’s at least beaten Rossi’s record. Maybe Ago’s too for race wins.

He doesn’t care about proving he can win on another bike. He simply wants to be the goat.
Trophy hunter. wink

He is awesome but this season in general has been an utter snooze fest. I’m thinking about not bothering next year and that’ll be the first year since about 2001 for me.

I haven’t won none. I certainly do not have the skills of Puig, not to mention JLo.

You say 500 like it is some holy grail that only those guys in the 80s could ride.
That was technology in those days, and everyone rode them. Now technology is different, and everyone rides new technology. It’s a level playing field, then and now, if you know what I mean, racing is just as difficult and demanding as in the 80s.

I don’t understand the snooze fest comments. Nobody was making them when Rossi was winning most of the races in a season and finishing on the podium in all but one of them.

It can be boring seeing the same rider winning, but Marquez is raising the bar to another just like Rossi did in the 2000s and it was awesome to watch then, just as it is now from a technical perspective.

Hi Lindun,
I must just remember the earlier eras better than they perhaps were.
Whilst I’m a Rossi fan it’s not just about Rossi for me. I just think the races were harder fought from the first lap to the last.
Look at last race. Marc stalked Quato the whole race then picked him off last lap. That to me is a snooze fest.

I know Marc scraps as hard as anyone when he needs to but there just seems to be so much less action this season.
It’s obviously down to the fact he has no real threats because he is on another level. Great for him but it makes for crap viewing.

Look back at Rossi vs Jorge, Rossi vs Stoner, etc.
Heck, even when Cal and Dovi were both at Tech3, they’d go at it every race.
They were proper battles, not just a race-controlling cruise with a one lap dash at the end.

But like I say I may have my old Rose-tinters on. biggrin

I hate to say it, but I think you have. There have been some good title battles, but we’ve had them recently too. This season has had some great racing, alongside some average ones, but that tends to get forgotten, as Marquez builds his virtually unassailable lead. Until the last race Marquez was pipped at the last corner in the two before.

500cc 4 cyl 2 strokes were potential career ender, instant power, cross ply tyres, no traction control or IMU, or technology that's knew where you were on track. The 4 strokes now are docile in comparison. Faster, yes without doubt. Tyres are awesome, carbon brakes are eye popping.

I think the most telling difference between the 500cc 2 stroke era and now is that there were few 19 or 20 year olds that ever got on one and could run at the front immediately. Fewer still that didn't get broken bones.

Marquez, Rins, Quateraro, Miller, Bagniaia, Mir were all just 20 or so and can run hard and fast on a 300 Bhp bike literally straight away.

Conclusion being that humans have not changed in 20yrs so it must be the bikes.

Anyway enough st. 500's were killers 4 strokes are pussycats in comparison.

I think that's true of almost all racing- the average races are forgotten and the exciting ones stick into your memory.

Hence everyone thinks it was more exciting and closer in the past.
