I need cover for 24 hours to borrow a bike. All the big comparison sites SEEM as though they offer STC but then just take me into the full annual cover process. Any tried and tested links anyone, please?

Doesn't exist for bikes, get the current owner to add you to their policy or see if your existing insurer if you have one will add it as a temporary additional vehicle.

The other option is to take out a full policy then cancel within the 14 day cooling off period.

Tempcover.com do bikes. Would have been £25/day for a Street Triple for me recently.

Filled in the online form, they are unable to offer me cover...oddly...I'll call my insurer.

Yes I used temp cover to buy a bike. It worked ok but was pricey. One thing to be aware the insurance starts on the hour. Something to think about because I wanted to check the bikes condition before buying the insurance in case it wasn't like the pics. Looked the bike over, checked the paper work etc then thought yep all good I'll do the test ride. Hit the button expecting instant cover and then ended up hanging about for an extra 30+ mins before I could get going! No big deal and I got the bike so all worth it! biggrin

Just to close, I called my insurer and added cover for any other bike as long as it's not owned by someone I live with for an extra £30 for the rest of my cover period. Added to my existing direct debit so I didn't even have to stump up. All the benefits of my existing policy, too, but only SD&P, which is perfect.

Not via their website, they just tantalise you with a green square which looks like a button but isn't...sorted now anyway for much less.

Does the bike have to be insured already for it to be covered or can you just ride anything?

Good point. Yes. The specific bike on this occasion is my brother in law's and is insured anyway. I guess a policy to ride anything would be some kind of trader's policy, maybe linked to having trade plates, wouldn't it?

Sounds good. Who is your insurer (underwriter)?

I thought there were rules to prevent multiple policies being applied to a single vehicle?
