The new Street Triple RS
Discussion
I read an article in MCN today. Headline figures 121 bhp, 58 ftlb torque and 166 kg dry. Out of curiosity I checked the figures for the GSXR 750 I just bought (which is effectively an 8 year old bike as they haven’t really changed it since 2011). Despite being fully faired and smaller capacity: 148 bhp, 64 ftlb torque and 156 kg dry.

I went from a k4 Gsxr 750 (same power you quote) to a street RS. I was bitterly disappointed. I’m still not convinced that the engine on my example was right as it just felt very flat after the Gsxr. Not much mention of changes to the dash on the new one. The graphics / colours were very uninspired on the original and really needed changing.
I hope they have updated the QS also as I had an aftermarket one on my Gsxr which was way better than the factory triumph one.
Test rode a 2018 765 RS today. Asked at the same time about the 2020 as I knew it was being revealed today. Guy in the dealer said it was all very minor changes, and that he shouldn't be saying it, but barely seemed worth the additional money. Does seem that way a bit, although up and down quickshifting/autoblipper would be nice.

You just said it - an 8-year-old bike, Euro2/3 and not even ABS.If they were to update it it would not be 156kg dry anymore.
A great bike the 750, but as an additional comment, 148bhp are paper-bhp, wheel bhp is in 130 region, and StreetRS wheel bhp has been measured higher than paper 121bhp.

QS/B, as you say. Euro5.
And the max torque is full 1000rpm lower, iirc.
Personally I think it also looks better now.

You are comparing K4 with Euro1/2, to a Euro4 bike with all kind of restrictions as well as electronic throttle.whatleytom said:

It’s barely a refresh it seems. Still decent value in the pre 765’a tbh. It’s also worth looking at the Ducati and KTM, both of their middleweight nakeds look decent. yonex said:

Updated dash, up and down QS, new engine. Seems like quite a bit of work - obviously driven by EU5 emissions... But hardly just a sticker change. Not sure I’m sold, but some nice tweaks on an awesome bike
I think the exhaust cam has been modified to help midrange and probably for the extra restrictions of more cats for euro 5. They’ve also mentioned reduced inertia etc
The old 765 had a few failures too, so maybe bit of work based on this.
For those thinking about the power, the 765 is a crazy fast bike when wound up. I rode my old 765rs back to back with a speed 1050 RS - despite less toque, top end , my money would be on the street. It power builds all the way to the redline - it’s crazy. The anti wheeling starts flashing at 9/10k even when accelerating from low in the Rev range, ie. wheel already loaded and accelerating hard.
Have the electronics been improved? Slide control, cornering abs etc?
It’s got the best brakes I’ve used and top suspension - other than a fairing and clip ons it’s a proper sporty bit of kit.
Anyway, I changed mine as it was going to cost me my license and with a recent baby, I’ve gone much more sedate. I miss it but my biking has gone a different way now ( old man ish 😂)

New engine is a bit of a push. I'd be surprised if anything that shouldn't have already been on the original was changed.Exhaust cam, crank, clutch, balance shaft, inlet and exhaust all changed for the EU5 requirements.

Some decent upgrades for the 2020 model. But not enough for me to consider trading in my '18
Same here. I also see some of the satnav/go pro stuff is suggested to work on the 18 street triples like mine (after handing over money for fitting)Not fussed one way or another about the styling.
So only really missing the change in the torque curve, and the auto-blipper. Neither really important enough to me to change.
