Suspension for a 'modern classic'
Discussion
I've a zxr750r M model, 1994.
as part of a refresh, I'm thinking of treating it to some new bouncy bits for a bit of road fun and a couple of track days.
So far....
Maxton £630+vat for the rt10 shock(£756)
forks, moved on from valve and spring to gp20 cartridge £725+ vat(£870)
www.bikers-top-brands.de have quoted 550 euro for a wilbers shock(£480).
Ktech don't have anything
Ohlins rears are £1100(over rated/over priced?)
Curve ball has been Mupo
Ab2 rear
25mm cartridge kit for the forks
£1100ish all in
who have I missed? anyone got Mupo kit? The wilbers in isolation is great for the price and quality.

Never heard of mupo.
I’d probably go and see your local suspension specialist if they have a good reputation. They’re most likely to know what you need without making you buy top of the range everything.
Can’t say I could particularly tell much difference between different brands of shocks. All aftermarket ones have been better than what was on before. Obviously the only noticeable difference was the colour and the amount of adjustment.

Nitron shock maybe?
Racetech re-valve kit & springs for the other end. Although I’d be tempted to just change the oil and free up the adjusters to start off with.
Edit - when pricing up shocks make sure you are comparing like-for-like. Emulsion shocks (mixing the oil & gas) aren’t as good as proper shocks that keep the two separate from each other but will be significantly cheaper.

I've zero interest in Nitron for a few reasons, all the others, yes!Racetech re-valve kit & springs for the other end. Although I’d be tempted to just change the oil and free up the adjusters to start off with.

The didn't even know the linkage was different, however thats not the reason.
I was unlucky to have something go wrong(properly) on a hornet track bike years ago, I guess they had copied something wrong.
Then I was after a set of nitrons for a zrx, I said can you do them in the same spec you sell them in japan, they said no, they're made in the UK then shipped to Japan and other bits vise-versa, so then I asked if they could price match a set from Japan, they told me I couldn't buy from there and ship here..... I proved them wrong.
As a last ditch, they claim that they can rebuild any of their stuff to suit, within reason. A mate had a shock of the right length and fittings, he was upgrading and offered me it dirt cheap, after a couple of calls, they said they couldn't modify it(it would need a revalve and spring).
The wilbers 641 would be a much better bet than anything Nitron have.

I was thinking of the Nitron Race Pro rear shock. It’s not listed for the ZXR but they confirmed to me that they could make one for it. Mine’s an M1, would love to know why you discount the Nitron, by pm if you prefer!
Cheers
Nito
Drop me a pm if interested, might help bring down costs if there’s two of!Cheers

Not sure where you're based but worth giving Darren a call at MCT.
+1 on thisThey serviced, changed springs and generally did their stuff on an old set of Ducati ST4s forks and ohlins shock to suit my S2r and I'm very happy with the results.

Sell the bike and add the money you were going to waste on turd-polishing to buy something 20 years younger and much more suitable...
Old bikes; so good they don't make them any more...

If I had a turd, I wouldn't polish it.
