After several years of touring spain I am nipping into portugal next summer. A bit of advice please.

My preferred way of getting accommodation is to pull up early evening/late afternoon and book a hotel on the spot. Is this feasible in portugal?

How does speed enforcement work.

Any other bits of advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

The old turning up late afternoon trick worked for us a few years back. Never as good as France that's geared up for that approach but do-able,

You could book something on the internet that has free cancellation by 4pm if you need something "in the bank".

Don't recall anything untoward about heavy handed speed enforcement except for the highly effective pedestrian crossing in the middle of small towns - enter said town at correct speed and it will be green as you float through, enter in a speedy fashion and the lights will go red just for you (no pedestrians required) and you sit there like a plonker.

Thanks for that much appreciated. Used to the changing lights from Spain. Get the idea of the pre book and it is a very good idea. But we really do push to the last minute before deciding where to stop
As you know some days you never want to stop and others you hate the motorised piece of s**t. Its helped in Spain because we are fluent in the language, Portuguese is a bit of a struggle. The late prebook is looking good. Thanks again.

The trip advisor app is also a great tool for last minute bookings.
