I’m seriously tempted to buy one of these next year.

Are there any owners out there that would care to share their real world experiences with one?

I know they have their limitations with regard to touring etc but it would be great to hear what anyone thinks that may sway me either way.

The R9T’s look brilliant in the flesh, imo. Every time I’ve got the car in at the dealer I have a walk over to the bike side, the standard R9T is the best looker in the showroom, oozes class and quality.

I don't know what you're riding at the moment, but the riding position is very sporty..

I’ve got the classic, it’s got old school charm with a decent chassis and brakes, Nitron rear shock is a big improvement, as has been said the riding position is a bit wristy.

One of the Old Gits (not on here) had a "normal" R9T for a few years. He liked it but said the suspension needed to up upgraded and set up properly and that a ECU reflash was essential to move an otherwise lack lustre engine up to acceptable. He has a KTM SD1290GT now and says that noticeably better at just about everything.

You're buying a "café racer" for touring?

I have to say your age might come into play here.

The riding position is as extreme as any bike I've ever ridden and that includes 749s and 916s.

That said, it's got to be one of the top 20 (if not top 10) most beautiful mass-production machines ever produced and I still have a hankering after one!

Thanks all so far.

The current bike is a CBR 600 which in all fairness I’ll probably keep as I’m very attached to it and with it being such a great all rounder and total reliability I would struggle to part with it.

Age could be against me on this one being 49 next January but would class myself as being “fairly” physically fit and active but I suppose a test ride will ultimately be the tester.

It will purely be a toy and nothing else. Kids all grown up, understanding missus and a bit more time on my hands to enjoy things between juggling work.

Decisions decisions....
