Ground anchors...

Bought a bike :bounce: (yellow SV650 Naked)

Unfortunatly I can't put it in our garage as mum keeps her Spitfire in there so I have to put it in the back of the carport. So to stop some scum running off with it I'm going to get a ground anchor to chain it to, does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm looking at [url]this|http://www.motorcyclesecurity.co.uk/acatalog/Ground_Anchors.html[/url] page (one of the first on Google so I'm not limited to just these) and my attention is drawn to the Datatool Fortress 1 as it's Thatcham approved and can 'take' a wide chain. Is Thatcham approved any different to Sold Secure gold rated approved? Is there anything else I should look out for?

I bought a 'sold secure' ground anchor last week, it is the double bridge one with 4 rawlbolts. Its not listed on that page but i paid £40 for it in my local store, thorougly recommend it. i defy anyone to take my bike while its chained to this thing short of a disc cutter

Hi Nige, I sell a couple of different "sold secure GOLD" ones..

sold secure is a good standard to go for - it means it might be insurance recognized too.

I bought a rotalok inturn - a concrete in job. That was £50 a couple of years back. Might be worth a look.

I have the "Retractable Ground Anchor" from this page and it's the business. Drops flush with the ground when not in use, so very neat and tidy. Sold secure, so strong as an Ox.

Don't do what I did however, and only chain your back wheel to the ground anchor. Make sure you get a long chain and put it through the frame. My pride and joy was stolen (well nearly - I caught them in the act) after they simply removed the back wheel and tried to lift the rest of the bike into the waiting getaway van.

I got the anchor mentioned in my first post in the end, I did look at the retractable ones but most of them only had one one or two bolts through. The anchor isn't really in the way of people walking past so the big beast seems fine.

I put the chain through the frame nad back wheel, and the way I put my bike in means you can't get any tools to the anchor with the bike in place since it's a tight squeeze between the back tyre and anchor.

What did you do to them? Bolt cutters to the gonads, I hope.
