Having replaced the engine in the ZX6R once already I am wondering if I should do it again or give it to an expert to rebuild? The last time I replaced the engine was about 15-20k miles ago from a scrap yard. so it didn't do too badly but it is sounding rough again.

What do you lot think?

What do you do to your Ninja's to kill the engine so quickly?

Sounds like you need to practice a little mechanical sympathy!

I would'nt say I ride very quickly, but when I give it some i can be a bit aggressive with it. Or maybe I am just too big for such a small bike.

I hope the new ZZR1200 is up to the job!

Sorry, not trying to be annoying.

I'm 12.5 stone and new to riding.

Perhaps I'm not that quick, but my lack of skill certainly takes it out on the bike (a zx6r - g1 in my case) and that still seems good at 21K miles.

I've added the last 6.5k. It's never sounded particularly smooth, but still pulls like a train. Are you sure it's fooked and not just sounded like a kwacker?

1st time the engine went a valve head had sheared off and caused untold damage to the piston, which in turn caused more damage to the next valve and cylinder.

New engine (approx 8000miles old)this time a valve had stuck same cylinder. out it comes again, new valve all ok.

Now twice it has sounded like someone had chucked a few nuts and bolts in the engine, first time just changed a spark plug and it decided to run smooth, now its sounds like its only firing on three. just about to rip the tank off to check the plugs again.

wish me luck.

Get rid of it and buy something else. My brand new 6r was garbage, destroyed it's gearbox after a few thousand miles and lunched it's camchain tensioner and I've heard so many bad tales of their build quality that despite being the bikes I want most I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. I know that that's not entirely helpful but I wouldn't throw any money at one.

Having said that a guy on the trip this weekend to france had a zzr1200 and that was an absolute rocketship (as big as one too) in straight lines but whether it'll keep working is anyone's guess.

Good luck,

Mark

Edited to add: I do know some people who have not had any problems but overall the build quality doesn't seem to be as good as, say, honda, yamaha or suzuki (although I'm sure some people have had bad experiences of those too).

We just bought a ZZR1200 (for me) and it is Fan-bloody-tastic. so the ZX6R is for the girlfriend now. so I will have to keep it on the road.
