Hi all,

Like most newbies I went out and bought the helmet I thought looked the best. I ended up with an AGV K3-SV.

No issues with it riding the MT07 in an upright position but on the GSXR the vision at the top of the visor is restricted unless I throw my head completely back!

Are there any helmets I should try on that have better vision??

Yes, all of them until you find one that fits and works.

Helmets are the often designed for sports bikes/racing or naked or touring etc. Thinking that might be your issue but not being familiar with that helmet I Googled it.

From AGV website:

The sanitized Dry-Comfort internal cheek pad and interior pads are removable and washable, and the visor includes three custom settings according to helmet use, for Touring, Race or City riding and features the XQRS system for quick removal.

Sounds like the visor is somehow adjustable for different riding positions. I don't really get how this works. Have you tried this?

I expect you basically need to find a helmet that is more 'race' derived to suit the riding position on GSXR.

On the other hand I wear a Shoei NXR on my ZX6R, which is a helmet designed for naked bikes I believe (the shape is supposed to suit the aerodynamics when sat up right I think). I have no issue with vision but I can't be arsed to tuck in properly most of the time either.

The reason you can’t see with the K-3 SV is because of the internal sun visor. That part of the helmet is extended outwards to fit the sun visor in.

You need a helmet without an internal sun visor.

The other potential issue is that your current helmet is too big. Many people want a helmet that is too big because they don’t like how one that fits properly feels. When it’s too big the helmet is sat too low on your head. You can tell this by your eyes at the top of the visor aperture. They should be in the middle to give you the best vision.

You could always do what Guy Martin does and tilt the helmet all the way up so your chin sticks out the bottom.

I think this is to do with the visor opening settings. You have 3 options of inserts you can change. So visor is open or closed, open half open closed or 5 clicks between open and closed.

I seem to be looking through the visor above the pin lock insert and the top of the helmet.

I’m not a fan of the internal visor.

Can see a new helmet being bought. Issue is the one that felt the best was £760 arai.

I've noticed Scott Redding seems to like his chin hanging out too. The helmet looks kind of too small.

FWIW I loved my AGV's but am really happy with my expensive Arai (prefer not to remember the price).

Been using LS2 carbon all season. Really light and Visor opening is massive compared to my Arai. It's so much easier to see.

So having tried every single helmet on in J&S I ended up with a Nolan N87.

Everything about it is better for me.

Forehead lining doesn’t detach like the AGV
Pin lock insert goes right to the edge of the visor so it doesn’t obstruct your line of sight
Much clearer visor
Much clearer sun visor (hated the AGV one)
Wind noise is reduced

Such a bargain of a helmet!

Been using LS2 Carbons this year. Very light and quiet. Comfortable and visor aperture is a lot bigger than the previous helmets. When driver sat in outfit at TT he tried the Arai and could see half way up the van door parked opposite. With the LS2 he could see half way up the window.

I've got the same helmet in different colour scheme. Only used it half a dozen times due to crap weather but I'm impressed so far.

I too have a Nolan N87. It's my first road helmet and feature packed for the price. My only complaint is a couple of the plastic bits have broken; 1 popper for the cheek pad, the nose guard.
