I’m looking for what will probably be my last bike.

I’m getting rid of my ZZR 1100 as it hasn’t turned a wheel in 2 years, due to house buying, lack of time etc but also due to the fact it’s kept round the back of my house and it’s a big heavy bugger to get out. It’s easier just to jump in the car.

I need something not quite as heavy, a decent turn of speed and has a good pillion seat.

I don’t need anything you need a set of steps to get on as my wife is no longer as fit as she used to be.

Budget is 4-5 k max as I’m not sure how much use it will get. I’m retiring in March so hopefully a bit more than the ZZR.

I was thinking k1300s or similar but all ideas would be welcome.

Vfr800? Otherwise BMW seems a good shout if you get a boxer engine. Seemingly weight held low down so 'feels' lighter

If you do land on a k1300s let me know; I've been planning to advertise mine but haven't got around to it.

ZZR1100 and K1300S probably weigh about the same.. BMW may even be a bit heavier.

Good point I hadn’t checked up on. I did find a handy site where you can compare the specs of bikes (although they are American model ) https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcyclespecshan...

And the BMW is only a few pounds lighter. That’s a pity as I had a hankering for one.

The K1300S has a lower C of G so may "feel" lighter. Worth trying one to see.

Why not go for something a little smaller and lighter. I retired 2 years ago and have a 675 Street triple R. Does everything i want with modern traffic density, plod, speed cameras etc. I also keep it round the back of the house in a workshop and its manageable enough to wriggle through a standard width door without causing any fuss.

Do you want/need a 1000cc plus bike?

I used to have a versus 650 and it was great for taking the missus out on, I think a 650 V Strom would be even better, they are physically quite big but quite light and easy to handle.

What about a 1st gen Z1000SX? They should be in budget, they are lighter than a ZZR11 by about 20kgs, I'm following the trend of recommending my own bike but they are really good all rounders and take a pillion with ease.

Is it definitely the bike, or do the brakes need attention? The tokico 4 pots (and now the 6 pots) were prone to causing trouble. I know the 1100 is quite heavy, but found the low seat height really helped with moving it about.

Want and need are completely different things when it comes to buying a new bike .

The Z1000SX looks promising too.

This is going to be a nightmare..it takes me long enough to choose a flavour of ice cream!!

To be honest as well as being a big heavy lump I just fancy a change.
The ZZR is going to need a service, the brake light isn’t working (wiring fault) it needs a rear tyre and a lot of tlc which I can’t get enthusiastic about. And even then it will be a 20 year old bike worth bugger all.

Hence the search for a decent sports/ tourer.

Go for the youngest and lowest mileage Sprint ST1050. They are widely considered to be one of the best sport tourers.

Top up by another couple of ££££ and you might be interested in a nearly new yellow Monster that I've just added in the PH classifieds.

It's not so much the weight but the maneuverability too. My new bike is only about 18kg heavier than my old one but has a really dreadful steering lock so is a really pain in the arse to wheel around. It also lacks any grab handles to manhandle it around tight corners.
