Having passed my test 30 yrs ago I haven't ridden a bike on the road until I started green laning last year, I'm not really happy on the roads.

Not so much about looking for danger, as I drive fast so I can spot an idiot at 500m but general riding, positioning on the road etc

Having had a quick google there seem to be a few "rusty rider" courses available - can anyone recommend anyone preferably Warwickshire / West Mids - I'd rather have an individual, than a training centre

I have a KTM 450 EXC and I'm looking to buy an 640 supermoto so it seems ideal to get some training when I get the new bike

Do a BikeSafe course and join your local RoSPA or IAM group smile

Great decision btw, you will learn a lot from above groups.

Good luck.

Thanks

Some handy tips in Rapid's Clinic - but their courses are probably too advanced for me ATM

I have signed up for info on the next Bike Safe course

The Advanced Rider Course via IAM seems by far the best option for me

I coach for Rapid, as mentioned by Vonhosen above.

The bespoke training is probably what you want. The day will be totally about your needs, concentrating on your weaker areas to make you better, safe smoother etc etc. Then you could look at the other courses and see if you want to take it further. Bikemaster has two days on track learning road skills as part of the syllabus.

Nearest Coach to where you would be Mark Edwards of MCN "fame" (he does most of the rider clinic features). Mark has been with Rapid since 1997 so has a wealth of experience.

Note - Hoping that it doesn't go against forum rules to recommend a company that I freelance coach for, especially as it would likely be a different coach working with you.

Our posts probably crossed...

I'll certainly bear him in mind but I think that a lot would be wasted on me ATM - running before I can walk.

Absolutely not mate, it's all levels of riding.

Last summer I spent a day with a chap who'd not ridden a bike for 30 years, he bought a Street triple, done 500 miles and then spent the day with me cutting around Wiltshire putting 120 more miles on his bike and come on massively in that time, hoping to see him again this summer to build on it. Had a chap who took 8 years off biking and bought a Hayabusa, similar story!

We do lots of work with IAM & RoSPA riders looking to to become Gold and Masters riders but it's great for us coaches to take it "back to basics" and ride with someone like yourself.

There’s a bike shop in kenilworth called ‘behind bars’.
They have connections to the IAM. I’m sure they will put you in touch with a local group.
