I particularly like Honda's DCT gearbox which I have on my vfr 1200 and it's a great weekend and touring bike but I find it a bit big and bulky in congested London traffic if I try and use it for my office commute.

So I am now considering buying an additional Honda NC750 with DCT specifically for commuting.

Just wondering if anybody has one and can share experiences of using it for inner-city commuting?

Someone I ride with who owns a SD1290 has a new Honda 750 DCT purely for commuting. He does about 20k a year and had his 6 months now

He said in a very short summary its all good for what he wants and has nothing bad to say about it

Wasn't too sure about the DCT, but on this bike it makes perfect sense.
I got one for London commuting and its awesome.
Very economical and easy to manoeuvre while filtering.
Its not the most fun bike, but its fast enough and DCT will leave a lot of bikes behind at the traffic lights.

Go for a test ride!

I've got an NC750 albeit a manual and it's a very good commuting tool. I don't have anything negative to say about it but I am thinking of replacing it in the next year or so as it's a bit heavy and lacking in fun. As a tool or daily commuter it is a very competent machine.

Wasn't going to add my ten pence worth as no direct use of one but my mate has one a NC750S with the DCT gearbox and swears by it. He uses it to commute into London and says the bike is a great all rounder with the added benefit of lid storage if you don't want to ride with all the luggage. Also it is wonderfully economical. The only thing that shocked me was the cost of the first service, think they check the valve clearances etc, so might be best getting a low milage one with this done?

AFAIK valve clearances should be done at 36k.

I bought my bike for £2,750 at 4 years old so IMO represented great value for money (albeit without the DCT box).

I have the NC750X ('adventure' styled variant) and it's pretty much the perfect commuter. Not particularly powerful, but all its grunt is low down, so it feels quite punchy to ride, and the DCT suits it very well. Superbly economical. Built in storage the size of a small top box where the fuel tank usually is. Heavy, but a very low centre of gravity, so quite manageable.

Never had any problems with it reliability wise.

Front forks are a known weak point and my bike has condensation issues in the instrument cluster after heavy rain. Mechanically it's been sound in my ownership so far though and it does have long service intervals which was a key decision maker for me as I do over 10k a year commuting into London.
