The 2nd test on his urine has also come back positive, albeit for a small amount. His defence council put forward that it may have been as a result of eating beef in Asia that had been injected with the substance in question. Drostanolone.

Google shows it as a failed or withdrawn treatment for breast cancer but still used as a muscle filler for those that want the chiselled looks ?

Mmmmm let me just think about that for a bit. Reworked jaw line, lip fillers, body sculpting but none of that sounds like Ianonne does it ?

Methinks his time in the Moto GP paddock is done.

Not sure if it's the drug of choice, but commonly used by unscrupulous bodybuilders as well. "Masteron", I think is the trade name.

It's so often abused it's a controlled substance.

Contaminated meat? I was under the impression it was an inject able precisely because you can't readily absorb it through the gut...

Silly boy.

Why should a motorcycle racer lose their career over this? The bike does the speed and you use your skill and judgement.
Not like running where its you doing it all.

small amounts can be used for cutting body fat and increasing muscle mass which will help with strength and endurance, Obviously hes not doing loads but look at Tour de France riders they will use any advantage... granted its more O2 intake and how its used but a small advantage is still an advantage
Bike racers normally fail on coke or stuff but I think bad meat is unlikely

Because its against the rules, bike racers are some of the fittest sportsmen out there, the physical effort of riding a bike is huge when you are racing.

"The drug is most often used by dieting bodybuilders and athletes in speed sports, where it is highly favored for its ability to produce solid increases in lean muscle mass and strength, which are usually accompanied by reductions in body fat level and minimal side effects."

He’s a GP winner, moto gp podiumer, well respected development rider, current Aprilia test rider, and contrary to nearly everyone who’s been on the Aprilia, he’s not a whinger and moaner. He just gets on with the job.
I’d love to see him out there on it, almost certainly deserves it more than Iannone!

I doubt you would get much better unless Aprilia break the bank and try and nick someone from a contract elsewhere.

Smith is the obvious though rather disappointing choice, been there tried it, not much kop!!

He is still faster than you or me. Just for clarity though what other options are out there to ride a brand new as yet undeveloped 300 BHP Moto GP bike on carbon brakes and Michelin tyres. Considering all other classes use steel brakes, Dunlop Tyres or Pirelli in WSB. WSB bikes are less rigid so easier to ride. All of these factors narrow the rider choice.

We have Smith / Abraham / Baz maybe / Bautista maybe / Simeon maybe / Folger maybe

Of those I would choose Smith over any of them as he has been working to help Aprilia but if the bike was already developed and had good manners then perhaps Folger would be a faster choice.

The pool of talent is small.

You missed Sam Lowes and Tom Luthi! smile

I'll happily root for Bradders, he's a cracking rider, definitely has some unfinished business in MotoGP. An on form Iannone is great to watch though, I'm not sure how harsh his punishment will be. scratchchin

Interestingly, GpOne also threw Lorenzo Savadori's hat in the ring - allegedly, his WSBK team are/have falling out with sponsors.....

Not quite sure why you would take a rider like him when you have two options with current MGP experience.

How motorcycling signed up to those substance abuse rules is crackers.
If it comes to it I would rather any Ianonne replacement is a punt on the next great talent from moto3 or 2.
Motogp is awash with ok riders. Most of the race on TV barely shows them on the screen.

Its stupid of him, but 4 years ban is harsh. Especially after Fenati got a 2 race ban for his brake-grabbing....

Thanks for that reminder. I would say banned from 3-4 races and regular tests after makes more sense.

The big issue is you have to be seen to comply with world sport precedents I should think, seems they have thrown the book at him for whatever reason.

Drug use bans are invariably now life or very long since the early days of Ben Johnson and the like. And it does not happen often in motorsport so perhaps the rules were written longer ago, than say cycling or athletics were drug misuse is commonplace
