A genuinely quick-release tail bag or..? (Commuting content)
Discussion
Thanks to a dodgy shoulder I'm finding commuting with a rucksack 26 miles each way a bit miserable.
My bike is a 2009 Street Triple R so not really meant for racks and hard luggage, but I'm thinking a tail bag could be a good option.
Can anyone suggest a good tail bag that's very quick to mount/remove? (So I can carry it from the car park to the office.) It needs to be big enough to hold a 13in laptop, locks and assorted odds and ends.
OR...
Can anyone suggest one that mounts more permanently but which is quick to open and close and could swallow a small rucksack containing my work things.
I never use the pillion seat so I'm not bothered about a bag taking up room behind me.
I am looking at potentially switching to a comfier, more upright bike that's designed for luggage in the long run, but I want to explore alternatives first.
Cheers!

My Ventura tailpack only has two clips to attach it to the rack

You can indeed get short clips to keep it tidy without the bag. I ran Kriega US20s and US30s for some years commuting and they are very handy. They can occasionally be awkward to keep tight if you have a funny shaped load in the bag, but in general, they're excellent.
I'm now on a 765RS and use the same system. The good news is, as someone said, you don't need the tidy straps with the 765 loops, and you can set the older bike up with just loops too.

No the two are not interchangeable, I'm afraid.
For the old model street, there are/were two flavours of straps directly related to the age of your Kriega packs! One set had clips on and needed tidying straps, and one set had loops - the loops being the more modern variety that now are the standard. You can see the modern loops on mine here.
The loop fitting length between the old 675 and new 765 models is mildly different, based on the slightly different positioning of bolts and seats, etc.. Don't get the wrong ones, as it will be a right pain!

I had 2 Ventura bags, used for holidays then daily commuting. They didn't really hold up and gave up the ghost after a few years, with the zips going and the weatherproofing giving up. As they are not fully waterproof so only showerproof, a cover is needed to keep out heavy rain, but with the plastic coating on the inside of the nylon going, I had to resort to putting things in plastic bags to have any chance of keeping things dry.https://www.ventura-bike.co.uk/bike-packs/aero-del...

My Kriega tailpacks (I have a few of each US-10/20/30's, with the 20's and 30's getting used the most) with I don't know how many 10's of thousands on miles of use are all still going strong.

That's the same as on the 765, but I think the OP had the 675 with the all in one seat. Slightly different set up, but along the same lines
Yes, that's right, mine's the original style Street, which I gather means I would simply be using the standard sub-frame loops that come with the bag, if I'm understanding this correctly. Thanks for all the input from all of you, really appreciated!
Whilst im not in a similar position regards the commute, I do want to add luggage to my S1000R so ive just bought a new, chinese jobbie pillion seat off eBay for £30 (which includes a lock and fits perfectly) , my plan is to mount my top box mounting plate to the pillion seat and then I can mount the box to the bike ...unclips in seconds...ive seen this done on a Blade in the past and elsewhere on PH I think..im sure it will end up being a cheaper and secure alternative to a tail bag.
Got one of these on the Tiger having given up on Kriega stuff.
I found Kriega is very waterproof and great once lashed to the bike but it relies on the contents filling it sufficiently to give it form (couple of times I ended up with odd shape lumps tied to the bike) and once on its impossible to access.
The SW Motech bag is stiffer so it holds its shape, and holds loads. Pretty sure you’d get a whole backpack in there as one item.
I’ve attached it to the frame under the seat using the supplied straps but have added some Berghaus-style buckles (off eBay) in the straps to enable rapid attachment/removal. Can be fitted either on the pillion seat or to a rack. Bit less bulky than a full on top box.

I agree with the above though. I can get to mine fine but it does need filling out really. If it isn't and you pull all the straps down it can be as above. As mines the smaller 20 for me it's fine for a weekend away though
I'm negotiating on a second hand Kriega but still open to other options...
I take the point about the SW Motech bag above. I think it might be overkill for my needs though, and I'd prefer something that is itself fully waterproof.
I see SW Motech also does 'drybag' style tail bags (and they're not that expensive). I'm guessing these may be very similar to the Kriegas in that they need filling out?
