Alternatives to Street Triple - Around £3500 ?
Discussion
Looking to change from my 2014 Street Triple
Budget is around £3500, prefer naked/retro bikes
Not looking for more speed really, just something different, favourite at the moment is an older Ducati Monster
Mainly do small commutes - all year round
Had a 2011 Gladius previously and enjoyed that.
(not sure what happened with previous topic)

Enjoyed your Gladius you say? There's a lovely 2016 SV650 on eBay for waaaay under budget. Lovely bloke selling it, too.
(In all seriousness, I don't think I could honestly try and convince you to swap a Street Triple for an SV).
I changed a 765rs for one of the new Sv650. Still happy with the change a year on.(In all seriousness, I don't think I could honestly try and convince you to swap a Street Triple for an SV).
If you want a bit more than Speed Triple you can get the Speed Quadruple.... https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bikes-for-sale/triu...
Or go back to the beginning of it: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-TRIUMPH-885-T309-S...

Adding to the Tuono suggestion. I've had both a 2010 STR and a 2004 Tuono, and the Tuono is miles more fun IMHO.
And as mentioned above, yes, the rotax engine in the gen 1 and 2 Tuonos is bulletproof. And great fun, especially with the chassis.
Was actually looking at them yesterday, but then I remembered how much the Mrs moaned about the pillion seat

Appreciate the suggestions.
I always assumed Aprilia's were a bit risky reliability wise, but seems I might've been wrong so worth looking into.
Anyone want to buy a 2014 STR?
As far as the engine, it's fine. Only other issue I had on mine was the left switchgear went (indicator switch broke - so had to replace the whole unit), but that was an easy replacement.I always assumed Aprilia's were a bit risky reliability wise, but seems I might've been wrong so worth looking into.

Oh and if you do find one:
- make sure you get one with the uprated solenoid. The original ones were crap and made it hard to start, its a cheap fix though
- rear brake is shocking. Most live with it, but you can get it sorted with a different rear resevoir, its to do with the positioning of it IIRC
- sidestand is too low - you can replace it with a particular year's fireblade one. Again easy and cheap.
- sometimes hard to find neutral. Again, theres a fix for that, I forget what it is but theres plenty of stuff on the net to find out how to fix
Despite all this, honestly my fave bike so far.
The forums are great too. List of known issues here http://www.tuonoworld.com/index.php?topic=93.0

I looked at 600 Monsters, decided to go full hooligan - KTM 690 (4 different styles to choose from)
Which year did to go for? I'm tempted by a post-2012 one but the valve clearance intervals would be yearly annoyingly. But I saw a great deal on a revised 2016 and thought the digi dash, ABS, more power, 1000rpm more, better seat and 5-8 years newer bike for £1k more was a bargain.
Valve clearances are every 12k IIRC - not sure I'd buy a Duke if I was doing that annual mileage.
