My poxy RT has spat it's dummy out yet again and I'm just about done with it now. I *think* its the fuel pump controller...."oh, they all do that sir". After my post late last year, I had the suspension done, but in the past 12 months or so it's had a new clutch, new TPS, new ignition switch, probably a few other things I can't/don't want to remember, and the tyres are now really on the last knockings. Getting tired of throwing money at it now, even though it does a decent job of the commute - when it's working.

I commute every day so I need something which won't keep effin' breaking down on me.

I'd have had something like the AT offer loads of you took if it was still around, but the cheapest on that currently is £2500 down and £109/m on 4000 miles. I do about 9k per annum so that would chuck another £25-ish on the monthly total. Can anyone tell me what the deposit was on the previous AT offer, just so I can beat myself up a bit?

Anyway as per title, anyone know of any cheapie deals going currently on something which will lug a 6'3 commuter on a 70 miles/day round trip?

It was 0 down if I remember rightly, the dealers funded the initial on the PCP deals

Bank loans are dirt cheap. I’d also consider one of those and buying something used but well looked after.

Not to be a powerful PH arse but for something used I could just buy it. And in all likelihood it would be fine and reliable but then that's what I thought when I bought this. I kinda just want something new (ish) and under warranty that I can use and not think about very much and hand back when all my commuting is done, which will hopefully be in the lifetime of any lease/PCP type deal.

The JB 0%, 3k off deal on the AT will never be repeated on any bike. In a way I would be a Fool to give the bike back. There current AT deal is £100 and £160 a month. I am paying £70 a month.

The CBR1000r + is £150 down and £120 a month, not probably not good for a commute

The 0% offers look reasonable. You'll miss the barn door fairing though.
Maybe a Versys or a V-Strom? Either make solid workhorses and give you a choice of 650 or 1000cc.
Otherwise my Crossrunner has been rock solid. If you can find one with the rider pack then that's decent value:

Good luck with whatever you go for.

AT was 0% over 3 years, I put £2k down on mine & plan to keep it at the end unless I can get a good deal on something else but I like the bike, does everything and only have to fill up twice a week doing over 400 miles.

As a new model has just been released you might be able to get a good deal on the older model, try a few dealers - I bought mine from John Banks as worked out the cheapest me.

Dont restrict yourself to the 0% finance. Get the best deal and stick it on a 0% credit card. Downside is that you take rv risk.

All good stuff, thanks everyone. @SteelerSE, the Crossrunner would be ideal, as would the other two. I'll take a look.

Point taken about the 0% card too, makes sense.

The other thing I need to think about is that if my plans all pan out, which is entirely possible, I'll be commuting for a maximum of another 18 months, and in fact it could be as little as 6 months, so it's a tough call on how much to invest in a purely commuter bike for that period.

Is it worth just having your RT fixed and keeping it until you're finished commuting? Maybe chop it and get something else for cheap? A cheap GS or something.

That way you aren't tied in to a deal when you finish your commute.

Yeah I think I’ll have to bite the bullet and do this. Unless I could get the bike equiv of an 18 month lease it probably doesn’t make financial sense. My query yesterday was due to me being properly pissed odd with the thing!

Trouble is, I had a car years ago which I just threw good money after bad at until I baled out and I vowed never again!

Puts me off BMWs, seems there are a few issues even with the new ones.

My neighbour has offered me a two year old low miles R1200RS at a competitive price, I was tempted.

The RS is a lovely bike, and despite all the slagging it gets, a new (ish) GS is a wondrous thing to ride. But I def won't be buying another BMW. Well not unless someone asks me nicely if I would mind taking their barn-find R35 away biggrin
