Whats the insurance implications of using a different tyre load rating if the original spec is no longer made?

Would a insurance company really check a tyre size?

I certainly wouldn't be worrying, especially if the OEM size is no longer available.

I thought you had a super cub op? I'm sure they haven't stopped making tyres for them

Well seems theres some insurance people on this motoring forum that deal with this every day i thought a soft search to pick knowledgeable people's brains would be ok. You go back to mumsnet buddy if you cant help with a motoring question.

As long as the speed and load rating meet or exceed the stated requirements you'll be fine.

Apologies A500leroy, it was a pointless thing to say by me, and what Warch says seems more than reasonable ! ATB

I'm assuming you're after 70/90/17/38P and 80/90/17/50P?

It will depend on insurer. Many moons ago we swapped from using 215/45R18's on the MPS (a car obviously as this is BB wink ) to the far more common (and significantly cheaper!) 225/40R18's.

Phoned up the insurance company, they said "are you changing the wheels? No? Ok then we don't care".

Other companies care if you were to change to winter tyres (even in the same size/fitment as normal).
