Anyone been to Austin before?

Looking at general admission tickets (only on Sunday). where is a good place to try and catch the best of the action?

I've been to Austin it's great! You will need good binoculars to see the corkscrew.

Yes, the Texas circuit is boring, Laguna was much better and was amazing to see the Moto GP bikes come down the Corkscrew, which I have done.

Doesn't really help for the forthcoming race in April though does it?

Shall I ask them to change the circuit?!

I was looking at an aeriel view of COTA the other day - its a bit like Silverstone in terms of footprint - Id not want to walk round a lap for sure.....

Clearly never been, but I suspect Turn 1, uphill and tight to be the about the best - subject to distance from viewing areas obvs

I've been and you're right T1 quite good. Also T2 and then shortcut to 17, 18 & 19. Sod walking the full lap. I did drive from LA so already lost sense of humour.

Hi,

Did Motogp at COTA last year and it was superb. We bought GA as you have. Some thoughts / suggestions:

-ensure you get there early for the support races and to get acclimated.
-GA is good as you can move around seeing the different views, rather than stuck in one place
-we walked through the main entrance, took in the fan zone (meet some drivers / check out some bikes and gear) and took the bridge over to turn 3 - good to watch the earlier races sitting on the grass (hopefully in the sun) as they go through pretty close - also by turns 4 and 5 the same
-from here you can walk up to turn 1 or down to turns 4 - 7 - bikes are close all along here
-turn 1 has a great view down to the main grandstand and start line
-we didn't do turns 12 and beyond, though I gather 15 is great - possibly not close though
-prior to the end of the race walk down the hill from turn 1 towards main grandstand and Ducati Island - some amazing bikes here - a good vantage point for the race, so would be a great place to see the race start I'd guess
-also outside look on the map for the Geico free bike parking - again interesting array of all types of bikes

Last year we arrived by bike, previous visit for the F1 we drove to Austin, left the car and Uber'd to the track. Riding in Texas is great as much higher speed limits than elsewhere. Both are easy to do as lots of roads lead to the track so only busy as you pull into it.

Have a great time,

Cheers
Jan

I've been based in Houston since 2008 and go most years.

If you want a good view of things turn 15 is your best bet - you'll be able to see from the straightaway from turn 11 as well as turns 12-15. Turn 12 tends to not get as busy as 15 but it'll more of a ball-ache if you want to walk around a bit (which you absolutely should).

Stay away from the big blue porta-potties - head over to the Amphitheater which has brick and mortar toilets either side of the stage which get much less traffic and are the cleanest to use at the track other than the VIP village. I don't care where you are on the track it'll be worth the walk/shuttle.

If you can, get there early (especially if you want any merch - they can sell out of a lot of stuff on Friday/Saturday). Would also recommend downloading the COTA app, which has map, and can send notifications if you choose. Oh, and Ducati island is great too but then I'm probably biased wink

Any other questions let me know.
