When I moved to NZ I bought a GSXR
750 as I needed a bike. I wasn’t sure what riding was going to be like here. Now I’ve been here a while and tried out the roads I’m thinking that a naked bike with wider bars might be better as lots of tight bends on the good roads. Also thinking that getting cornering ABS would be a good idea - hopefully will never need it but always good to have the option of braking in a corner (I try to keep the corner speed down until
I see the exit so never brake in corners but you can’t always anticipate the unexpected).

I’ve seen a 2019 Tuono Factory with 180 miles (ex demo) for £12.5k. Obviously got to see what they would give me as a trade in first.

Any Tuono owners on here? Any quality or maintenance issues with the bike?

One thing I don’t like about the Tuono is the stock exhaust. Any road legal alternatives that aren’t as huge?

Also - what sort of range do you get out of a tank in the real world? Petrol stations selling 98 Ron seem a bit thin on the ground outside Auckland so prefer doing a bit circuit and then topping up when I get back.

Having only test ridden one my experience is limited, however they are an amazingly fun bike, but a complete licence looser as it wants to ridden like a raging bull.

Within the first 5 minutes of being on one I was tearing down the road on one wheel, thinking what the hell am I doing this is bloody mental!

I would still buy one but self control is certainly needed.

I would go for the Superduke R if it was me because its slightly bigger and you can potter about on it without feeling the need to go mad but the powers there when you want it.

One of our guys at work has a Tuono Factory V4 with an Akrapovic exhaust that's a lot smaller than the OE can but properly obnoxious with the baffles out.

He gets about 175km per tankful and reckons it's the most awesome bike ever. To be fair though, he does ride his Dorsoduro 900 rather more often. Make of that what you will.

Oh yes, and he's just waiting for his second speed-related ban to be activated.

They are only offering me £5k for my GSXR. Half new price and it is only 6 months old (not that I paid full price). Ouch.

I did test the previous version of the Tuono - before it went to 1100 - a few years back. I think I had an S1000R at the time. When I got back the dealer told me there was a lap timer type function where you could check your highest speed. 134 apparently. It was a bit bonkers. Liked it but it wasn’t different enough from the S1000R to be worth changing at the time.

The captain sensible side of me is saying I should wait until the RS660 is released.

I have checked insurance for Tuono. Goes up from £300 to £450 so bearable.

If there are lots of tight bends wouldn't your 250 from this thread be ideal?

Picking up an RS250 not that easy. Only one decentish one for sale in NZ that I haven’t managed to see yet. Has been on sale for a year so no rush. But having spoken with the dealer I’m also not that convinced. No service history.

Buying one from Japan seems too much of a gamble (and too much hassle). Ideally I want to find a really good bike already here with an enthusiast owner who has cared lovingly for it but then such people probably don’t want to sell.

I bought a new ‘18 model year RR from a main dealer, who fitted the Aprilia recommended full Akra system prior to delivery. With the baffle in the noise is perfect 👌
Absolutely awesome bit of kit, toured all round northern England and Scotland on it, with just a Givi top box and slightly taller screen. Cruise is very useful, but wouldn’t attempt a big Europe trip though.
Only problem has been the leftside bar switchgear was replaced under warranty due to the indicators packing in following an 8hr ride home in the rain :-(
I would highly recommend, but it’s so confidence inspiring that you need to be very careful of speed limits. Also, don’t expect much more than 110 miles on a tank, and reset your trip at every fill because there’s no fuel gauge

This was mine ten years ago. Very fast, snatchy at low speeds and a pain around town. Can't remember the mpg but it was about the same as the car I owned at the time (S8).

I tested the Tuono, when I was looking for a new naked bike. Brilliant bike and just nuts. I was definitely about to lose my license trying to get to the shops as all I wanted to do was go faster and wind it up.

it was a bit "all or nothing".

I ended up with a Monster 1200S. It doesn't have the mental power levels of the Tuono, but it is very versatile and a great, true road bike.

Interested in this.

I am getting a Factory Black delivered post March 1st from M&P on a 20 plate. I have got a '15 S1000r so in particularly interested in the comment about not different enough although to be fair i just fancied a change.

I will have the two at the same time as not going to advertise the s1000r until after i get the Tuono.

110 miles a tank not much but seems in line with the test ride I had of the Tuono as I was surprised how much fuel it used (I normally top up the tank on a test ride as curtesy to the dealer).

After riding the Tuono I did think I might have bought the wrong bike (the S1000R) but the cost to change was too high for something that was a better version of the same type of bike.

Ideally I should try the Superduke R but finding it difficult to make time to do test rides here as weekends so busy. Also dealers not near good roads.

Surprised they don't have a fuel gauge, seems mad for such a high tech bike. Does it have a reserve light?

Oh dear, that's really not far on reserve! I get about 140 to a tank and 35 miles on reserve and that feels short.

I’ve wanted one for ages. I need to replace my 1198 soon and thought I’d finally cave and get my V4. However... my mind was changed slightly by chatting to a salesman who’s owned a few RSV4s - he mentioned that the used market for Aprilia V4s is fairly limited. And that traders were only willing to bid £5k on what most people would presume to be an £8k bike. Obviously it’s only relevant if you care about residuals, but worth bearing in mind! Sorry for the boring tangent. They sound sodding amazing.

Depends where and what dealer you use, my local dealer is aprilia so there’s quite a few around here, lots of previous owners keep going back and buying new ones and trading in there older models , always get a good price as they sell quickly

These sum up the bike pretty well. A friend who I track with owns a monster S as their road bike. He says the same thing

I've had a 16 Tuono 1100 and put about 16,500 miles on it in 2 1/2 years. I now own a 19 Tuono 1100 and that's at about 8000 miles

As already said no fuel gauge but reset the trip after every full tank and like clockwork reserve comes on circa 110 miles. You'll get another 20 miles safely after that

It's a bike that will do everything. I've tracked, toured and usual weekend fun fast road ridden mine and its done a great job

Enjoyed the front end slide vid - nice riding. Impressive forearm strength hanging on to the Tuono at speed!

Am i right in thinking you showed interest in the rs660? If so a naked version is coming. Basically a mini tuono, might be something to look at?
