I sold my 2014 S1000rr and have regretted it frequently, so am going back to my most favourite thing, another sports bike.

Loads of choice, I know. However, my mind has rested on either a 2017 s1000rr or (left field choice for me) a ducati 1199.

Budget is being deliberately moderated to £14k.

Any owner insights on an 1199?

£14k will get you onto a 1299 or you specifically want an 1199?

Good question. I guess i'd be saving a few grand. My ability (lack of) means that i'm not going to know much difference.

I need to learn more about Ducatis! smile

1199 imho will feel like a bag of nails coming from a gen 2 RR, hot, unruly, very agricultural, if you're used to driving tractors you'll love it.

1299 is a vastly better bike but again gets hot, unruly (some may like that) totally different feel to what you'll be used to with the RR.

Gen 3 RR makes for a fantastic road bike/track bike, although much like the previous models, can be difficult to fault, but hard to love.

If ultimate comfort isn't an issue, what about something like the R1 or RSV4?

Rsv4 for me with that budget, if you really look around you may be able to get a 1100 model ex demo, amazing bit of kit

Thanks, rsv4 was the other one that i fancied, likewise an r1, but was trying to wittle it down to two.

S1000rr has to be on the list as it was such a great bike. I agree that the Ducati is VERY different, maybe unpleasant. Test ride in the dry required.

- so do welcome these inputs! Thanks.

Every magazine tests the factory but the RR is just as amazing, and it’s new!

In regards to the RR, they are amazing, fantastic road bikes, the only thing I've found with the gen 2-3 is that they really do feel not bland, but I guess cold, very clinical, Like it's all engineering perfection, but doesn't have a soul, the sense of occasion I get just starting the R1, and I'd bet my house it'll be the same with the Rsv4rr, is something the bmw can't compete with.

Since the first S1000rr came out i wanted one, couple of years ago i was in a position to buy one so started looking at them, test rode a couple of times but I was left a bit cold, ended up with a 2016 R1 and absolutely fell in love with the bike, never had issues with comfort like some say either.

Springs on its way, why not go and ride some different bikes, you might fall in love with something you might not yet have any interest in....

All good insights. Indeed, need to ride a few like I did last time.

First time round, s1000rr seemed miles better than anything else I rode. But times moved on. Exciting times, new bike purchase ahead. There's little better!

I know you said sportsbike but have you considered the Tuono factory? Yes a bit different from the RSV4 but you could get one new for £14k.
