2018-on CB1000R thoughts?

Considering one of these as working on my Dorsoduro is a lot less fun than riding it, and I don't even get to work on it often.
Anyone had one?
I've read the journo reviews but hearing from people who've got one, or rejected one after a test ride, would be really good.
I'm looking at the plus model, as the flyscreen and seat cowl really finish off the looks for me, and the quickshifter sounds like my kind of thing.
£629 down and £99 a month from Ventu in Grantham if anyone else is interested - or the deposit drops to £275 for the entry spec.
Are there any decent affordable alternatives, that aren't full-retro or essentially unfaired sports bike? I'm not a fan of the Z1000 or GSX-S1000 style, and found the XSR900 and MT-09 quite small (6'3", 110kg).
Cheers for any help.

I love the look of them but discounted it after a test ride. I'm 5'9 ish and felt like I was perched on it rather than in it and it was quite vibey.
That was coming off my MT09. I also test rode a Supersport S and an Z900RS around the same time. The Ducati was really fun but confirmed I prefer my 4 cylinders so I got the Kawasaki.

Had a test ride on one - no lack of poke, quite liked the sound, big fan of the look (even the can didn't look so bad in person). Seems a lot of bike for the money if you're comparing to retros which I was. Sadly seat and position just didn't like me at all, pins and needles in my right foot after 30 mins, loss of feeling after 45, called it a day after that. I have sciatica but never experienced similar on any other bike.
I have wondered since if a comfort seat or something would sort it out as I really enjoyed it otherwise, but I'm not a powerfully built director with the funds to take an 11k punt.

Sounds a bargain, but at 6ft 4, just a bit taller than you I found it too small. I just look too big for it and prefer to 'sit in' the bike more.
An MT10 is perfect for me but I eventually went with the speed triple R. Not quite as comfy as the MT10 but the fit and finish was better and it had the ohlins and brembo bling.
That triple sounds the b
ks as well with an end can

Also now have my eye on a R Nine T Scrambler, similar money to a CB1000 for a <2000 mile, 2018 bike and I know they are nicely finished.
Need to sit on some, as I've heard the BMWs are a bit low seat / high pegs which isn't great for a 34" leg. And now I remember sitting on a CB1000 at the NEC and not being totally impressed.
I like the idea of a triple, but STRs look a bit generic-motorbike to me. Looking for something modern-retro I suppose, given the 2 on my current list.

What did you go for in the end?
I'm 500 miles into owning my new CB1000R, I've come from an Africa Twin, so a bit different.
As I've mentioned elsewhere having a nice chunk of power is refreshing.
I use the bike for commuting (and everything else) and find it really comfortable, strangely more comfortable than my Africa Twin. Less buffeting, being a naked which makes a huge difference.
The engine is smooth, and you can be really lazy. 6th gear and 30mph...it'll accelerate without chugging away.
I went for the standard model as Honda heated grips are s
t, and the Quickshifter / Blipper at £700 extra (I had this on my AT) is a bit of a joke when a decent QS is £250, I can live without an auto blipper.
Really looking forward to packing a bag and heading into Europe a bit later this year

I just got to a dealer this morning to have a sit on one. Sadly (because I absolutely love the look of the CB1000R especially with the mini screen and tail tidy) the riding position is leaned-forward which is a no-no for me. I had a Z750 with very similar ergonomics and it stuffed my neck so badly I had to sell it and take a few years out of biking.
I've got an Aprilia Dorsoduro and its relative light weight and low centre of gravity makes it an easy ride, so I'm more looking at a Ducati Hypermotard if I chop it in for something new. It looks like my bike but with red plastics! but the main thing is it doesn't destroy my neck.
My bike isn't running well, is scruffy, keeps giving me minor electrical trouble due to furred connectors stemming from before my ownership - and I want to ride, not be chasing electrical gremlins.
When at the Honda dealer I did keep staring at a tricolour Africa Twin. Going to get a test ride on that and a Triumph Scrambler 1200. But think they are too heavy / soft / distance oriented / offroad for my riding, and that a roadgoing motocrosser is more my thing.
There is an argument to just get the rough running on my Dorsoduro sorted, spend a few quid at a time sorting the scruffy bits, paint the wheels gold and bung some eyecatching stickers on it (a red AT with black wheels leaves me cold, a Tricolour on gold rims is gorgeous, so it's the colours not the bike that's really turning my head!) and enjoy it. I know I like it, it's quick enough for me, it's got under 13k on the clock, how much of a millstone can it be? Eh? Eh?
TL;DR Very disappointed at the riding position of the CB so it's off the list. Fine I'm sure if you're used to sports bikes or tourers and not a crip like me.

I don’t have the data to hand but the forward lean of my torso is something like 15 degrees, where on the dorsoduro it’s about 4 degrees. To get to that sort of posture it’d take a fair bit more than bar risers.
Just one of those things I’ve come to accept - forward lean equals neck and shoulder strain for me. Had physio and chiro and it’s not going to go away so my bike needs to give me an upright posture if not to cripple me and stop me riding.
I am wondering if an X Diavel is another option, if I can find one in budget...
