I fancy another bike to add not replace and have a thing for (yes I know its been done to death) cafe racers

I've looked at the R9T but quite like the British Trumpy and all its heritage

Anyone got one? Or the R? What's the good, the bad? Interested in what people have to say without reading it from a journalist

What about something else that's similar? I like the Norton Domi look... Just not that brand right now!

It's purely for quick blasts, B roads and more local rides

Not able to add any ownership experiences unfortunately, but another Triumph alternative to look at may be the Speed Twin?

If you're just wanting it as an occasional use bike it may be a bit more wallet friendly, if indeed that is a factor for you. And it's also very well regarded too.

But ....

Those Thruxton RS"s do look damn good dont they!

i Haven’t ridden the thruxton but have ridden the speed twin which shares a few bits.
It’s the only bike that’s totally surprised me from what I was expecting, only 94hp but my god does it pull, handling is superb too, reckon you could surprise a few people on it, sounds really good too. I can only imagine the thruxton to be a great bike.
If I had the money without doubt I’d have a speed twin in the garage for Sunday afternoons.

Don’t dismiss the 9T until you’ve ridden one, just sold mine and starting to regret it, great blend of throbbing old school engine (but still makes 110hp) decent chassis and really well bolted together.

My Thruxton r is a joy to ride. But if you want something to thrash it’s not the bike for you. If you are looking for a relaxing alternative to the Aprillia it will be great. The torque is very good, the bike is very stable. The seating position is lent forward but not extreme in anyway. I replaced a standard Thruxton with the r so have been riding them for 4 years. I did extended test rides on the Speed twin as well, feels more flickable. I think that’s down to the wider bars, changed angles and the lightened engine internals. From what I’ve read The Thruxton rs will be a bit more Revvy than the r, an extra 1000rpm or so. I was looking forward to trying one but that won’t be happening for a while now. I also enjoyed riding the BMW but preferred the Triumph. That’s about all I can say.

I just leave this here (any excuse biggrin )

Yep thats exactly what I want. I like the old school engine feel but still making a bit of power with modern tech around it

I have had mine for almost 4 years (longest i have ever kept a bike) and I am only thinking of selling as its not that comfy with a pillion on the back...

Great bike, torquey motor, good brakes, lovely suspension quality and incredible handling for the type of bike.

Best looking bike on the road too imho, gratuitous pic below:

Actually a great thread Birky, it’s my train of thought too for an extra bike.
Just a bimble on the back roads going nowhere in particular to use up a tank full of petrol. With a coffee thrown in for good measure (impossibility right now!) and a chat with whoever is around. Plenty of smiles per miles along with the odd fast corner thrown in for good measure.
I’ve been riding Teutonic contraptions for many years and already have 2 oilheads in the garage so the 9T is not on my list. I accept it is a cracking bike but I want to try another brand.
I have never had a Trumpet :shame: and the Thruxton looks ... just sooo good. Back in my school days (early 70’s) I used to walk past all manner of British bikes. An original Commando is etched into my mind. I just don’t want to buy an old machine and spend more days fettling it than riding it. Ok, that is unfair but you get the gist of it.
What about an Enfield? The one from India I think? I haven’t done any research on it yet but I have read a few articles a while ago. I’m thinking cheaper too?
Any other bikes to consider? Anything Italian? An older Guzzi?

I love my Thruxton (just the base one). It looks great, and has plenty of power / torque for the road. The extra 1000rpm of the RS will be appreciated, the redline turns up incredibly fast. I would second that the speed twin is worth trying as well. Very similar chassis but different riding position, which changes its feel quite significantly.

It even does 60mpg on the commute! (I doubt there is much that will do 60mpg and produce 95hp)

The only reason I want to change, it's only got a 12.5l tank, and 2 days commuting always puts in more than 12l on the fill up (160 miles)
