10/50 is obviously the closest.

I would however say that the spec would be more important than the grade just by itself.

Personally I’d be happy putting 10/40 Shell Ultra 4T in it.

10 W 60 means:

10 W(inter) so any oil equal or lower is OK as it refers to the flow rate/viscosity at low temperatures
60 means the viscosity at 100 Deg C so a 50 will be thinner than a 60 at 100C. This might have an effect on the oil pump and/or oil pressure when hot,

maybe look online and order the correct oil grade as it may invalidate any warranty using thinner viscosity oils. Motul 7100 is a 10W60 grade and should be widely available

Would the oil pressure be higher or lower at temperature with the lower viscosity?

I've got a couple of F4s, and a Moto Morini Corsaro 1200 Veloce, all of which use 10w 60. I use Motul 7100, easily available on eBay in 10w 60 viscosity. 4 litres around £40, and a very high quality oil...

Hgiher i would think as it flows more easily?
Nope thinner oil = lower oil pressure.

Found it now from Euro Parts, £31 for 5 litres, pretty good price.
Yes, lower oil pressure is right, hotter/thinner/lower. I should have remembered that froim tractors we used to work on way back. Oil pressure warning light used to come on in summer and a thicker oil generally cured it.

It's not a car oil is it? Needs to be JASO rated unless yours has a dry clutch

Don't KTMs use this stuff? Motorex.
My previous Duke 690 used it, but one time the dealer used equivalent Putolin. Official dealer & bike under warranty, I assume they knew what they were doing....

Warranty will be voided if the incorrect weight oil is used, not if the same but different brand, as long as it complies to the required standards.
But substituting a 10W60 for a 10W50 may lead to damage especially in the more distant parts of the engine from the pump due to the reduced viscosity. Not such an issue from cold but a potential problem when hot.
916's for example have an oil feed to the head and it can take forever for the oil to arrive once it's drained down to the crank case/pump. The better option is to crank without firing to prime the lines or no revs after start up for 30 seconds....

New oil in, runs and gear shifts way better now, with just new 10/60 and new hydraulic fluid and a good bleed.

Cutting their costs perhaps. Thought KTM part owned Motorex which is why they recommend it?

It's definitely still the OEM recommended brand, is guess the dealer is cutting costs as you said, saves a few quid!

Going on your description you have put TRIPLE QX Synplus Fully Synthetic Engine Oil - 10W-60 - 5ltr in your motorcycle with a wet clutch.
