my bike is in for service and the dealer is locked down, i'm getting cabin fever and should really look to buy some biking gear rather than waste money on junk food and video games!

i can't seem to find a commuter short boot that would work in the office. also for the money they cost i could get something like a pair of grenson or cheaney country boots - thick, lined leather, properly constructed, commando/dainite sole etc. these would be fine in our office whereas the work look of a biker boot wouldn't.

just wondered if anyone has tried a normal boot with something like these over your socks, or whether you think this is a good/bad idea in general.

i currently wear dainese trainer type boots for the commute and change once i'm in the office, but the dainese wear quickly and have barely any sole tread.

thoughts?

I suspect there may be a more recent thread than that one:

I assume you have normal bike boots as well as some normal work shoes?

What I do is leave my work shoes at work and just wear my normal boots to ride to and from work in and just change in to my office attire once I get there.

Yup. but then we have a locker room for keeping and changing into uniform which is a big help. I think you missed the part where the OP want to buy something!

indeed! you don't know how hard it was not to buy some gilles tooling rearsets yesterday! hehe

i don't have any long boots, just dainese trainer type short ones. the short 'office casual' types look ste, don't seem to offer much beyond a properly made boot [grenson et al] yet are equally expensive. seems to me that unless you get a 'proper' boot then all you get is a stiff sole and some ankle cups anyway, so may as well just buy those dainese protectors and whatever boot i want. or am i wrong?

These Helstons look pretty good to me, but not cheap, as you said.

Ive been wearing these Alpinestars boots for a couple of years now, you can get them in black or brown. They are comfy like trainers, have real soles and armour/reinforcement as per a "real" bike boot.

I know Motolegends will price match FC Moto and if they go wrong you will not have to pay P&P to Germany.

some good options there cheers chaps. the altberg and a-stars are what i would be looking at for touring i think, but for my short commute the helstons would be better and fit in at work. i'm looking at dark dyneema jeans as we're a jeans and shirt type of office.

i'm going to buy those ankle guards and see if they work with the non-bike boots i have at present. if a winner i'd prob go with something like this

https://www.grenson.com/uk/brady-mens-hiker-boots-...

and then look for a touring boot for next season. already in the mid 30s here and it'll be too hot to ride once the lockdown lifts frown

I guess this is dependant on your levers, however my GS "knurled" gear/brake can destroy a toe of a normal boot pretty quick....

Ooh I like those. My Roadrunners are really comfy for walking around in despite being a long boot.

Mine are rubber but still doing a number in my suede dainese uppers pretty quickly. I’d have to go with those elasticated toe guard things. It’ll
be cycling clips next god forbid

Yeah, I think they could be quite a nice balance as a boot.

I’d be buying a pair of these, https://www.motolegends.com/boots/trickers-riding-... but I’ve got a thing for trickers!
