I have a 2018 Monster 821 and considering fitting the Termignoni pipes next time it is in for a service.

I prefer the look of the Termignonis to the standard pipe (mine is 2019 MY so has the large and quite ugly silencer) but not had chance to compare the difference in sound yet. Anyone done this change, any thoughts, is it worth the cost?

Cheers

Phil

I’d do it for the looks alone if the price was alright. They sound really nice though, I test rode an 821 with them a few weeks back. Not quite as loud as the Termis on my 899 which are borderline offensive without the baffles, but the sound is equally good. Great bike as well

Only you can say if its worth it ultimately.

If you just want a nicer sound and less bulky looks something from Pipewerx or similar would do the same job as a Termi at a fraction of the price.

Don’t know if it’s still the case on newer but the earlier fuel injected Monsters got a big benefit from the special Termi ECU that came with them. Standard map is very lean at low RPMs for emissions regs - Termi one doesn’t bother with any of that so it’s better low down as well as being set up for the new cans.

Expensive but always a good option for Monsters over the alternatives.

You're right about the maps, but the mapped version will be prohibitively expensive. A quick look suggests it's about £1k for the Termi set including ECU mapping kit.

An "Up map" (why they use this terminology I don't know) is about £300 with a bluetooth unit, or can be had a bit cheaper to get it flashed. At that point you could fit any can you wanted, something like an arrow, SC Project, etc. Or even just the cheaper non-flash included Termi.

I had one on my 2016 821, as I got it at a decent price.

For me, yes. IMHO, it is the best looking and sounding of all the aftermarkets for the 821 / 1200 models. So much so that I put one on my 1200S.

If you get the sports system you get baffles that take volume down, but retain a deeper note. You also get the Up Map, which re-maps the ECU. I couldn't say whether it improves power as I had mine put on when I got the bike, but it popped and burbled nicely.

I don't know whether there is any difference in fitment between the 2016 and 2018, but I have the one off my 821, with baffles and Up map in a box, that I haven't gotten around to selling yet. I've also got a pair of Rizoma adjustable levers too.

Thanks for all the feedback, the bike is due a service in June so I will enquire then to get a price and take a call on that. I guess it will come down to how long I want to keep the bike, at the moment I am thinking long term but am also tempted to move to a Supersport S next year....

Is there much value in the old silencer box, I guess I could put that on ebay and use a bit of man maths to help justify the cost...!

2018 1200, have termi and yes it came with a remap from the dealer.

It certainly makes a difference in the way the bike is fueled and whilst maybe a bit anti social, without the baffles in the bike responds so much better (and pops, bangs, a bit of blue flame etc)

As the CAT is in the end can / y link a remap is definitely worthwhile.

I've got a 0 mile original exhaust in my garage - let me know if you sell yours for a decent price!

I'd keep the original and swap back then sell the Termi setup when you get rid of the bike.

Price wise, new, you're talking at least £1k for a pair of Termi's.

I'd keep the original in case you shift the bike.

I've go a full system on the 1200S and have kept the all the original kit.
