Well I’ve just put a deposit on this, can’t wait to pick it up, post lockdown.

I don’t have a licence nor have I ever ridden a bike but now seems as good a time as any! My test ‘ride’ of this bike was sitting on my friends 2020 model laugh

With all theory / driving tests on pause I will probably get used to it in the garden and then look to go to some pay to play places when they’re open.

You bought a bike without a license or having ever ridden one? That's incredibly brave. I've been riding a 125 for the last 6 months just to see if I liked it before splashing out on something nicer. Granted I am now itching for something bigger but given the demand for 125s I will likely make a profit when it comes time to sell it on.

Do they let you in with no licence?

Not really Aaron, I want a bike so I bought one, I never really test drive my cars and bought a house without viewing it smile I make my mind up and I’m off!

I’ve no idea, I assume if they let non-road legal bikes in then yes, but maybe not and I’ll have to wait.

i'm not saying they don't just interested as for a public circuit trackday they want to see a licence. Bike doesn't have to be road legal though.

No license, MOT or insurance required for these pay and play palaces.

Where are you based Vader? I may have some local laning routes you can have. They are becoming increasing sparse as the ramblers get their way.

Why would he need a licence ? He wont be on the road .

Some places will insist though, I think a lot of TDOs do as well.

As I said when I've done a circuit trackday they have always asked to see my licence. I take a little comfort knowing that those around me can actually ride a bike.

Also I wonder what kind of insurance a place like that would have if they don't have any kind of checks. Fine if you don't mind the risk but go into it with eyes open is all I would say.

The trackdays I have been on have always been crash fests, quite often with innocent parties taken out.

Back when I worked at a Harley Davidson dealership (1991) I sold a sportster to a chap with similar experience, although IIRC he had ridden a twist and go on holiday in Greece. He told me he had a long driveway...It was back for repairs after he dropped it multiple times in the first 6 weeks until he broke his ankle and sold it back to us!

Nice choice, get a licence and enjoy. Make sure you paste in on loose surfaces a lot, start slowly and expect crashes. Avoid trees. It will do wonders for your self confidence.

Are we talking about the same thing? In 30 years of riding at MX tracks and Enduro practice tracks, both professional outfits and farmers lending their land for a little income, I have never been asked to show a license or prove insurance. Even when competing in Enduro's, never been asked to show a license or insurance. Scrutineering for the bike and helmet, but not me!

The question might relate to the getting to a fro from the off road riding venue.
Totally agree that I've never been asked for a license at an off road venue such as Golding Barn or Canada Heights. You don't need a license to ride off road. TD's in the UK might be different.

However, while it a well understood fact that 250 $T's are a dangerous as a bag of Play-Dough, the idea of someone who has NEVER ridden a bike, let alone off road and on a completion grade machine amuses me no end.....As i have a friend who, like the OP, had never ridden a bike before, went out and bought a brand new S1000RR. No, it didn't end well.....

But, let's not jump to conclusions, the OP may actually be THE Lord Vader and summon his Jedi powers and turn out to be awesome. Stranger things have happened..Or, on reflection and the balance of probabilities, not.

I’m not expecting to jump on this and be able to ride, I’m not a complete idiot.

My CBT / Theory / Licence has all been cancelled because of CV-19.

I’d planned to buy a bike around this time as I should be part way through learning, obviously that’s now been postponed.

The lads I will be going with know that I am a complete novice and we plan on the pay to play days to help me out and talk through riding off road, being able to drive to and from the venue whilst I can build up my riding confidence / skill.

Everyone needs to start somewhere and I’ll start in my garden learning how to start / stop and turn.

Hello Origin, I started this as per our discussion elsewhere!

I’m in Flintshire, I believe we are quite lucky and still have a fair few around, the goal in 2021 is to get from here to Abersoch smile
