Electric motorbikes
Discussion
Hi all. Has anyone ever tried an electric motorbike? I’m intrigued about this one. I know it’s not a proper bike but for a starter bike or a novice it seems to be ideal?

What’s the legal side of these? What age can you ride them and do you need a full licence?
Seems a lovely looking bike but the performance isn’t great is it?

I've ridden most minus the lightning, the bike in the link will be (if not a scam) an absolute bag of balls.
Zero bikes are probably the best currently on offer in my humble opinion, massive fun to ride and with truly savage torque on the more high end models.
As for licences, as far as I'm aware you'll need a full licence.

I’d love to think that ad is genuine but I doubt it ( or at least you would be very disappointed with the end product). Having said all that the electric scooter/bike market is huge in China, but not the same quality as something like a Zero etc.
Having ridden a Zero I’d have one tomorrow to do the commute, would be perfect for me, they are a blast to ride. All comes down to the cost though and it just doesn’t stack up at the moment.

5Kw is less than 7bhp so you could ride it on a CBT.
May not be a scam but the bay price is likely to be a long way off the on the road price.
Price includes shipping to a seaport of your choice...so presumably you'd need an IVA like a kit car at the least after that to get it street legal.May not be a scam but the bay price is likely to be a long way off the on the road price.
I've read that the Chinese are much bigger on electric vehicles, so CDM stuff might well be below our standards for ride and handling but motors might be OK. I'd happily have a Zero if they weren't so bloody expensive - rode one a few years ago and it was nice.

These guys have similar and are a UK based shop. I started a similar thread on the bumblebee stuff, asthere isn't many reviews or feedback on them.
I think the best of the cheap electric bikes is the soco stuff, but to get equivalent power you are taking £4000+. By the time you add the increase in insurance costs you are probably better off with a 125cc.
