Servicing guide for Modernish Vespa 125
Discussion
Depends on how you value your time and whether you're coolio with the toolio's
So a Haynes manual, 25 quid?
Parts, consumables etc, 80 quid?
Tools you may need but don't have Unknown Quids
So say you take 4 hours slowly disassembling everything, changing the service items, drain the oil, change the plug etc.
Thats 50 quid an hour. You still need to properly dispose of the oil, so a 2 hour trip to the dump, now your at 33 quid an hour.
And if it all goes sideways and you need to take it to them anyway???? back to square 1 excluding any cock ups along the way
garages have rent, lights, wages etc thatthey'll factor in. You're paying for convienience and a degree of fallback which you don't have if you DIY.
FWIW, if you've only done 4000 kms in 9 years does the belt really need changing? If it's not looking frayed or perrished, or the teeeth are getting knocked off, why not do the oil and plug for now?

I was working at a scooter dealership in Melbourne last year, and saw my fair share of Vespas (hateful things to work on compared to Hondas and Kymcos!)
£300 seems a bit steep, we would normally do a full service in a couple of hours. Bear in mind to do a proper service on a scooter is different to a motorcycle, as we would strip out the rear belt and variator assembly, clean and inspect, as these can wear out quite quickly. On a lot of Vespas this requires removing the rear bodywork which can be a real pain in the ass on certain models. Is that price including brake fluid change and transmission oil?
Nothing is particuarly complicated for a competent home mechanic, but take care on the bodywork and fixings etc as they can be easy to break. Vespas have a lot of Torx screws!

I had my PCX125 at the Honda dealer every 8 weeks at each 2500 mile interval for the first two years of ownership. It was cheaper than the train to work.
A bog standard service (oil, air filter) was about £130. It really didn't need anymore than general services and two lots of headset bearings over 35k miles. Oh and 2 x drive belts at £200.
Tyres were £120 rear and £70 front fitted.
After the warranty ran out I serviced it myself. £11 for oil, £4 plug, £14 for an air filter. Front pads were £29 iirc. Part of me wishes I'd kept it as commuting was very cheap but slow..
Scooting is cheap as chips but I'm liking the 7500 mile intervals on the versys!
