Paint stripper
Discussion
So, I am going to be polishing some alloy parts. I bought some hycote spray on paint stripper, which has less effect than spitting on it would do!
Looking online, it would seem modern paint stripper has been made safe!
Starchem synstryp seems to be the one that is recommended.
Does it work?
Is there anything better?

Are these parts anodized at the moment ?
Then cheap toilet drain pipe cleaner is the stuff to use.
Fill up plastic bucket / tub, dissolve cleaner pellets, put part in, watch for bubbles as the reaction starts,
take out bare metal part a few minutes later.
Wear proper acid resistant gloves and eye protection, this stuff really stings,
and old clothes that can take a few splashes of bleaching.

I you mean Sodium Hyrdoxide (or "Lye")? If so it's a base, not an acid. You wouldn't expect it to react in water very much in it's pure form. It will just dissolve to an alkali solution I would have thought, but it's possible it has other chemicals to help aggetate a blockage.when used to make drain cleaner... That isn't to say it won't strip paint, it very much should. Then cheap toilet drain pipe cleaner is the stuff to use.

Forgive pedantry, but knowing the difference means if you spill, then you know you can use simple household vinegar to neutralise it.
Not sure if you could do an "Edward Norton in Fight Club", and neutralise a chemical burn should the worst happen, but a quick google suggests it may be a worth a shot. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12711953/
But yes, wear appropriate PPE.
